YES!  I’ve been to many weddings that were family style and that’s what we’ll be doing as well.  It’s definitely my favorite option as opposed to plated, (we never considered buffet).

It can include any food you want.

Yes I have and it was actually very lovely – the only hang up was that the food was cold. Which is often times a problem regardless!!!  If I remember correctly there was salad, sautéed garlic green beans, chive mashed potatoes, steak (I don’t know what kind) w/ a mushroom glaze sauce, and chicken piccata!  I forget what else there was…I hope that helps Wink

I think Southern food would be a good fit for this style. I went to a family style wedding just this weekend. We had Italian food, and it was supposed to be pasta with veggies and/or meatballs, with two choices of sauce. We ran out of everything fast, and never saw one of the sauces. We all kind of sat there while each individual thing was brought out.

So, the difference in my mind is that it was family style, but all geared towards one dish, not lots of individual dishes. You see what I am saying? So, if your grits come 20 minutes before the ribs, it really doesn’t matter, right?

So, the timing is the negative IF the foods depend on eachother. Southern style would work better, its more like Thanksgiving.

I LOVE this idea. I’ve never been to a wedding with a family style meal (just buffet or plated), but we’re doing this for the rehearsal dinner! It’s Persian food, though, and is just more awesome that way. 🙂

That sounds delish!  I went to a wedding recently that was family style, and it still felt fancy.  I wished there was more than one vegetarian option, but whatcha gonna do. : )

I was at one in an italian place… it was hot, it was good… but, I feel like there was a lot of extremes.  Everyone wanted one thing and it ran out at the table and no one wanted something else… and it differed by table. So you would look at all the X food on a neighboring table and want to steel it… lol.

I love family style dinners! It’s kind of got the best of both worlds. It’s still a sit down dinner, yet people can go for seconds as if it were a buffet.

Definitely a great dining option!

I haven’t been to one either but the idea is really great!  I love family style restaurants and it’s awesome to be able to try different things at the wedding instead of just having to eat chicken or beef!

I went to a family style wedding and it was absolutely my favourite.  It was sort of the best of plated and buffet; everything was served to the table, yet you could choose what you wanted/didn’t want to eat and how much!  I can’t remember everything, I know there were mashed potatoes, chicken cordon bleu and roast beef.  The southern food sounds great!  We wanted family style but it was hard to find someone that would do it.

Since all the weddings I have been to are Asian they are almost always done family-style. Then again it is always like an 8-12 course meal if I remember correctly. But I love the family style since each table has their own portions so you don’t have to get up and move around like you do with buffets.

We’re serving dinner family style but I’ve never actually seen it done so it’s reassuring to hear about other bees who have been to a wedding with dinner like that! Thanks! 🙂
