I’d totally ask your Future Mother-In-Law if your mom could come along to to your FMIL’s house. Unless there is some weirdness in their relationship, I can’t see why your Future Mother-In-Law would take issue with it. They’ll be seeing a lot of each other the rest of their lives 🙂 You could also invite your FI’s family (mother) to your mother’s house, and host. That way your mother could feel less like an “outsider” and your FI’s family would still see you both.

My parents invite family, friends and friends of family to their house for Christmas. My sisters and I come a bit earlier to exchange gifts and then people start showing up. It was nice to celebrate with a big crew – I agree that just the three of you would get boring after an hour! This year, we’re starting a tradition of our own; Christmas eve will just be us. My family get to see us on Christmas, and his on Thanksgiving.
