Darling Husband and I are long overdue to visit his parents in FL. I decided to invite my two sisters and their SOs and my tween niece down with us. My in-laws are sweet people and love guests so we were going to make their 3 bedroom home work for us. (“The more the merrier!” says my Mother-In-Law.) Somehow, my little sister felt that she could extend an invitation to my teenage step-sister with us without consulting the group. By default, my tween niece and my stepsister gets a long great; also, by default, my middle sister will end up being the chaperone for the two girls which she did not plan for. What makes this awkward is, I really don’t know my stepsister because she’s only been in the States for 2 years. She also doesn’t speak much English so she would need chaperoning, as the tween, isn’t a reliable escort. (Not that it matters but Darling Husband is white.)
It seems like we can’t take back the invite without upsetting my step sister and my father. So, I will make lemonade out of lemonades and get to know my step-sister. However, I can’t shake the annoyance that my little sister decided to be gracious and take it upon herself to bring on a minor whom she will not be responsible for. I’m just seething that my vacation is no longer what I had hoped it be and now I seem like a grinch because I had voiced my concerns. I know, I know…I sound very petty. Ugh. Vent over.
