I was wondering if anyone had a family member or friend serve as the officiant and got married in Massachusetts? I plan to have my cousin apply for one day license so that he could solemnize our marriage. The State will let us know about a month in advance whether the application is approved. I was wondering if anyone had any difficulties in obtaining an approval? My fear is that the application will not get approved and I will be scrambling at the last minute to find a Justice of the Peace. Can anyone share their experience on the application process?

I had my brother serve as my officiant, and we got married in Brookline, MA. I think the only thing is to fill out the application form, and they have to have someone write a letter of recommendation, and just send in the check.
As long as you follow all of those steps, list all of the correct information, and send it in with plenty of time, I don’t think there’s any reason they shouldn’t approve your officiant. This should be sent from your officiant though, and not from you.
Overall, it was pretty straight forward and easy. I think they gave an estimated time on when you should hear back, and it was pretty accurate from what I remember.
