I am using the wavy stick handles likes these. I bought them from perfectstix.com and they came real fast too!

I love the tutorial….but I wonder if I could find the pencils and handles pre-drilled? I have visions of drilling through my hands.

@bRooklynRocks: You can actually buy the sticks from the Hobby Lobby link that I posted.  It looks like right now they are having $4.95 shipping on all orders until 2/26.  (not as good of a deal as getting them in the store with a 40% off coupon, but still cheap!)  You might try AC Moore first though, they have a large craft wood department and you might find them there.
