Eh. I’d opt for regular, esp since the jumbo is more money. We did cupcakes for our wedding and chose a bakery that made normal sized ones. I find the jumbo ones to be way too much icing, but I know I’m weird in that I don’t like a lot of icing.

For presentation, my Father-In-Law actually made me a stand, which was really sweet. I had planned on going to thrift stores and borrowing from friends/family, but his gesture was really kind.

psyche1978 :  I would rather get chocolate and vanilla, the regular cupcakes because for sure people will eat one or the other. Too risky to buy a more fancy flavor when there’s a higher chance people will not eat it plus it’s more expensive.

Just say no to cupcake cakes.  See cakewrecks if you need a reason.

I’m not familiar with publix.  Do the fancy come in additional flavor choices?  What is the price difference?  Are you planning to have any other desserts or will this be your only dessert?

I think your husband is right in that they will be just as happy with regular so long as they taste good.  That is all anyone cares about.  From your perspective, you will probably need to buy more of the smaller than the jumbo.  For jumbo you can probably get away with 1.1 to 1.25 per person.  For regular you will likely want no less than 1.5 per person and possible more depending on how many flavors, how many other desserts, etc.  So regular may not be as cost effective depending on the circumstances.

i voted for fancy. but seeing the price difference. what do you get for your money?  can you share pictures?

what if you got regular cupcake for all the guests but got fancy cupcakes for you and the groom and maybe the VIPs too (parents, grandparents, wedding party)

ETA: since this is your only dessert, if you go the regular cupcake route, make sure you get at least 2/person.

Agree with ajillity81 about ordering enough. We had 25 guests and I ordered 6 dozen. 🙂 We also didn’t do favors so we had boxes for folks to take one or more home as well.

I’d order the regular cupcakes and do minimum 2 per person.

Giant cupcakes can be nauseating. I’d rather have a couple cupcakes in different flavors than one big one.

psyche1978 :  I mean… that stock photo of the regular cupcakes looks nice, but in my experience, cheap grocery store cupcakes never end up looking that nice in person. They kinda just end up looking like this:

What’s the price difference if you factor in the different sizes (I’m assuming the regular ones are smaller than the jumbo)? And if you go with the regular ones and they’re significantly smaller, you might have to get 2 per person as a PP suggested just in case. All that might close the gap in terms of the price difference.

I would go smaller, but for sure do no less than 2 per person since this is your only dessert.

I voted regular cupcakes.. Obviously this is a custom order and they will not be handed to you out of the bakery case… So you will get to choose the icing colors and what not. Grocery store bakeries are often underrated and can do a great job!
