I have never heard of this cut either, it is a little busy for my taste and I would be afraid that wearing it every day would get dirt in the pockets like you said, but I would be interested to see if anyone has pictures.

I’m having a hard time picturing what sort of jewelry that would be used in. It is pretty and interesting, but busy like globalmargaret said. I could possibly see it as a pendant for a necklace, but what other sorts of things did you have in mind? I feel that it definitely wouldn’t work in a ring, it would get dirty too fast.

I am sorry but it reminds me of a 70s ashtray…remember those big cut glass ones 🙁

I have seen stones cut in very creative ways… I think it was a contest for gem cutters? but they were never intended to be used in jewellry.

@GelaMac: Haha that’s totally it! I knew it reminded me of something but I couldn’t think of what that something could be. But yeah, it does kinda look like a fancy ashtray. I guess if it is really small you wouldn’t make that connection quite as quickly, but it is still a bit awkward.

Very fancy, obviously cut with great skill, but not my cup of tea.

@GelaMac:  LOL!

I’ve never heard or seen this before but it’s a bit too unique and weird for me. I agree some pictures of some of these already set in jewelry would be interesting though.

I have seen tons of these, not in rings but as loose stones, and they are pretty. However, jewelers don’t use the term fantasy cut – they call them concave. Anyone who uses their own terminology for a common thing (be it a stone, a cut, etc) is usually not an honest vendor.

Everyone has their own idea of what is attractive and what isn’t to them, and neither is right or wrong.
