I’m considering getting my flowers from the local Farmer’s Market the day before the wedding. Since our ceremony and reception are both outside, the flowers will pretty much be just for bouquets and boutenniers. Does anyone have any advice for how to ask the vendors at the Farmer’s Market about doing this? Or any other advice for DIY flowers like I’m planning on doing?

we did this too. just go talk to a vendor who’s flowers you like and tell them what you have in mind– ask what they have that time of year, and tell them how many you’re looking for. since you’re a ways out from your date, they can do special requests, set something aside for you, maybe you can even go out to their farm and pick what you want. you’ll get beautiful fresh flowers, and if you just go with the flow and use what’s local and blooming then, you ca’t go wrong!

I did this too. I got in touch with a flower farmer I like and we asked her to grow some extra flowers in our colors. She’s going to charge us "by the bucket" and we chat about my wedding plans every week at the market. It’s really lovely.

I know a friend who did this. She did what violety6 described–went to the Farmers Market and spoke to a vendor whose stuff she liked. They talked about specific number of flowers, types, colors, etc. I believe that my friend actually went straight to the farm to pick up the flowers she needed. I think if you’re willing to be flexible and looking for in-season flowers, this is a great option. Plus, you’re supporting local businesses! I love the Farmer’s Market!
