I would totally rock a bright colored peeptoe pump with the outfit, for a pop of color.  Maybe a bright yellow or green.

I’d probably be “safe” on the first day. Being too cute can give a bad impression on your coworkers. I’d probably stick to khakis and a dress shirt. Sorry i’m no fun!

Also is it possible they could take you out into the field to show around? in which case you may feel silly in peep toes!

If they are jeans and t shirts guys I would def. avoid a bright peep toe.  I think they’d give you some funny looks and think you were prissy.  I would just do a navy pump.

No i just meant if you do have to go into the field for anything, well, maybe bring a pair of flats? Your manager may show you the job site or something. I guess i thought heels in general may not be good if they take you out. You’re talkng to someone who wears tennis shoes on lab days =]

Your office sounds just like mine, MissAsB! I have a black Target t-shirt on, some dress pants from The Limited that I cropped to my knees, and 2″ black mary jane wedges on. It’s nice to work somewhere casual =]

Bring them just in case.

And, i only say not to be *too* trendy on your first day b/c, well, you know i’m an engineer in an all-engineer, all-male building. If i dress too trendy, they comment on it and I don’t feel like they take me seriously on days I just feel trendy. you don’t look like you ‘fit’. It’s stupid. Well, i’ve been here long enough now, it’s ok. You can sneak in little bits of trendiness here and there, though, and I don’t think one brightly colored shoe will throw them off (chances are most of them are married). And, bring a coffee mug, haha. That’ll help you fit RIGHT in =].

Oh and trust me, i have coworkers who wear suits with tennis shoes. It’s goofy. Engineers are notorious for having NO style. And yeah, the guys DO poke fun at me sometimes about breaking a nail or something, though, but if you don’t act uptight or too girly in general (being too girly really irritates them b/c you’re young, too, and engineers can be pretty traditional and stereotyped. I get crap cuz i’m 24 and it’s lack of respect. you have to work around that and sadly, the way you appear to them is a major factor). But i think you’ll be fine. Engineers are a weird bunch…..

I think i’d go with a brightly colored purse instead of a peep toe!!!!
