Okay so my bfs sister asked me to go shopping with her and her mom this weekend. We have never really spend much time together, however she said that she thinks I always dress really fun and cute and she had a baby last year and has lost a lot of weight and wants some new clothes. So I’m going as ‘fashion advisor’!!! I’m nervous! I am very soft spoken and not pushy at all and she wants me to get her to try things she wouldn’t normally wear and force her to try things on… So ladies give me some ideas of things I need to encourage her to try on. What are the new fashion trends? She’s mid 20s and a mom of a 1 year old. Any ideas (and encouragement) are welcome 🙂

Well she obviously likes your taste in clothing so I’d say just pick out things you like and have her try them. Of course while making suggestions take into consideration if her body type is different than yours – if she has huge boobs and your flat chested (or vice versa) some things won’t work for her that would work for you.
I think it’s fun. Just have her agree at the beginning of the day that she’ll try on anything and tell her that her that she’ll hate some things but she’ll also find some things she likes too, if she’s open minded about it.

Thanks! We do have really different bodies and lifestyles. I am in fact flat chested lol and I’m also very thin… so I just dont want to pick things that she wouldnt be comfortable in. But I think if shes going in to it with an open attitude we will have a blast..

The most important tip for looking good is to buy clothes that fit well, which is easier said than done (or you can take them to a tailor). Since she’s lost a lot of weight she probably doesn’t know really what size she wears (and we all know how much sizing varies from store to store anyway). Try on a variety of sizes in each store to make sure you get it right—what it says on the tag doesn’t matter at all!
Also, the most flattering clothes usually emphasize the smallest part of a woman’s body, which is usually her waist. Look for clothes that create a defined waist, either through a waistband in the shirt or darting/seams or the way things are cut (versus those loose, blousy tops that billow out around you). Even though she is trying on new things, carefully evaluate what she gets to make sure it makes sense with her lifestyle—don’t buy a ton of party clothes if she doesn’t go to many parties just for the sake of trying something different and the heat of the moment.
I hope you have a lot of fun!
