I surprised my dad with a song by his “all-time favorite band”…the Dave Clark Five’s “Because.” He loved it and even got a little misty.

(I have been making fun of the Dave Clark Five my whole life. But I secretly love that song.)

I LOVE “Walk with you” by Edwin McCain! But “I loved her first” by Heartland is in the running as well

I keep flip flopping on what song to pick… Right now I’m thinking Somewhere Over the Rainbow, because it has special meaning to me and my dad. It will also match right up with the mother/son dance The Rainbow Connection (again, special meaning between Fiance and his mom).

Probably not typical father/daughter and mother/son dance songs, but they are unique to us!

We used Walk with You by Edwin McCain, but It Won’t Be Like This For Long by Darius Rucker was a close contendor!

I have no idea what song I’m going to to use! I wanted to use My Girl because my dad would always sing that to me and my younger sister but dad doesn’t think he can dance to it. So right now, I am thinking:

  • Sweet Pea by Amos Lee
  • Walk With You by Edwin McCain
  • Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole
  • In My Arms by Mark Wills

My dad chose Willie Nelson’s Always on my mind. I think he had it picked out for a while. I am pretty certain I’ll be crying through it!

It’s bittersweet. It means a lot that he wanted it and that he has that sentiment, but I hope he doesn’t feel like he has to make a public apology! I was always daddy’s little girl, but after my parent’s divorced when I was 7, I didn’t see much of my dad. But there was plenty of fault to go around, he apologized to me long ago and we’re close now.
