I used “Father and Daughter” by Paul Simon… I liked it so much better than the other songs I had heard, and the lyrics just fit my relationship with my dad…

He was hesitant at first, because it’s not a slow song, but the day of the wedding it turned out to be so much fun!

When the song started, he picked me up and twirled me around and from there it was just hard not to have fun with it 🙂

@tinylittlebird: I came in here to recommend just that one, too! I just love Paul Simon and my dad and I always listened to him when I was little, so it has some special meaning for us, too. Such a great, and underused, father daughter dance song!

@bananarama: I think that it being underused was a big part of it for me. Not that I intentionally tried to avoid overused music, but a lot of the times a song that is overused for certain traditions kind of looses it’s appeal for me.

Example: When I first heard “I loved her first” on the radio years ago, I was *sure* I wanted it as my F/D dance song… until I heard it played at almost every wedding I went to after that.

So.. I was actually surprised, but my father took us out to a folk concert event thing and I really liked a song called “Child of Mine” by Bill Staines.

Otherwise, I’m considering “You are my sunshine” by Johnny Cash, or “Butterfly Kisses”, just because I remember the song from when I was young. I’m having a hard time with this choice…

Here is a list of way too many father/ daughter options: http://www.wedalert.com/songs/fatherdaughter/index.asp

I am not a super sappy person, so some of the songs don’t appeal to me. Some additional options:
– fly me to the moon
– Isn’t she lovely (Stevie Wonder)
– my girl
– the way you look tonight
– Blue skies
-Dream a little dream of me
– Over the Rainbow (watch the version though – the Hawaiian version is nice, although hard to dance to, since there is no base / drums to ground you)

What a wonderful world—the Louis Armstrong version (very important).

I think Cinderella is so sweet by Steven Curtis Chapman. It makes me tear up everytime!

Isn’t She Lovely – Stevie Wonder.

We did a family dance where both my dad and I danced and my groom and his mom danced to this song.  It was fun and fast…as I typically think these dances are awkward and boring.

We will dance to “Daddy’s Little Girl” by Al Martino.  I think there has been a few remakes of this, but we will be dancing to the old version.  My dad use to sing this to me when I was a little kid! 🙂  Not a dry eye in the house!!
