In order to cut down on the amount of time everyone is just sitting there watching us dance we would like to combine the Father Daugher and the Mother Son Dances but I’m having a hard time coming up with a song that would work for both. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Leanne Womack’s, "I hope you dance" is very pretty and can work for both. IT’s the song my fiance and his mother are dancing together and I think it’s really beautiful without being gender specific.

Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler)
Kind and Generous (Natalie Merchant)
Child of Mine (Carol King)
Where You Lead (also Carol King)
Over the Rainbow (any number of artists)
Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong)
Baby Mine (Allison Krauss or Bette Midler)

My Dad and I are getting the band to play a medly of songs for our dance…most of the ones we like – Brown Eyed Girl, Whenever I See Your Smiling Face, etc. have some verses in there that aren’t really appropriate. Y’all could do that and have a few parts of songs mixed in to incorporate everyone.

We did a combined dance to bridge over troubled water.
It was really sweet and cut own on the time.

We’re going to do this too, but I’m not sure about the song yet. My Fiance is a little nervous about our first dance too, and I thought this would help him feel better once we get our dance done.

I’d like to do this at my wedding, using Sara Groves’ You Cannot Lose My Love. I love this song because it could go both ways; as a statement from parent to child or child to parent. And it’s beautiful…and not awkwardly long! Though it may be a little more bittersweet than what some people would want.

We are doing the same thing. We are using Rascal Flatts “My Wish”.
