I know this is so very rude… But I feel like I can voice my opinon… And I hope to be completely wrong, but… I’m just not buying it.
Your previous post bragged about having a big 18k wedding… Yet your ex fil pays for your flights out to see him… Why? And while I can understand that maybe as a one time scenerio, you worded it as if it were the case each time. Also, he bought you a car for CA, AND gave you his old one… Did you not have one? But still you were planning a wedding for 18k that was and I quote (from your previous post) “faux”. Yet since recieving a unanimous “Do not ask your ex fil for 4k” from the bees, suddenly you scaled back and managed a $1,500 weddding… Right.
More like you just saving face, to me.

Haha, yeah I can see that. I think I got brainwashed by the idea that the average costs of weddings in my area and hometown were always in the tens of thousands. I definitely planned that wedding with great ease. PLANNED it, not paid for it.
It’s actually kind of an odd story about the car thing. His son totalled the ’88 I had grown up with and gotten for my 17th birthday right before we were going to have our baby. My mom gifted us a used car as a baby shower gift since we then didn’t have one and he crashed that too and promptly left me and our 2 week old after that. I decided to move to Washington state for a fresh start and my father in law said there was no way he was going to let us drive 2 states without a good vehicle and gave me his old car he wasn’t using much anymore. When I started flying out to California more often (on my own dime) because my mother was ill with cancer and I was caring for her financially and physically in between school and work (I also had a job with a great boss on Venice Beach and he would have me work days as an artist for $10/hr under the table whenever I needed to) my Father-In-Law decided he wanted to get me a more gas efficient car… and did 🙂
There’s a reason why I asked for opinions. I didn’t ask to hear that I’m right or so that I could argue my point. I asked because I was feeling hopeless and needed, not just opinions, but advice. Which tends to be the point of forums. The bees made it seems like it was possible, so I put more hours into planning and realized that I had used very few personal contacts, primarily searched salons rather than alternate sites, and overall just more expensive options. You guys really helped me. I’m not trying to save face, but if there has to be any negative light painted on it I’d say I got enough of a response that I felt like I had to open my mind more and stop being so whiny about it!
