So, my dad is a self confessed terrible father. I’m the oldest of his children (there are 6 of us). 3 boys, 3 girls, 4 mothers. I am the only daughter he will get to do a father/daughter dance with.
I’m 28, over the last 5 years or so, we’ve worked on our relationship quite a lot. He calls me, I call him, we see one another, and he adores my Fiance and our daughter. It has really been great to reconnect with my dad.
This is my second wedding, he wasn’t invited to my first (we were still estranged). Both my mom and dad are going to walk me down the aisle, and my mom has even said that I could let him walk me down the aisle alone (she raised me by herself).
My dad has stage 4 lung cancer that has already spread to his spine. I want a father/daughter dance that represents our relationship now. But what song do I choose?! He’s a harley biker guy, and I listen to indie and christian rock. The best song I can come up with is Daughters by John Mayer. Any other suggestions?

Does he want to do a dance? I don’t have any song suggestions– I had a really hard time choosing a song for myself and my dad and in the end we just did a Greek waltz with no words! But I’ll keep thinking.

Hmm, idk if he had any connection with you growing up, but my dad moved across the country when I was 3 and i literally saw him once a year, so I’m thinking about using “in pictures” for our song… considering he literally watched me grow up in pictures.

My situation is really different than yours but mine may work. I’m using Forever Young by Bob Dylan but the Norah Jones cover she did at Steve Jobs’ memorial. I have a really great dad; however, we are jokesters and more like frat brothers than anything and I really searched for something that wasn’t sappy or “daddy’s little girl”. It isn’t specifically a father/daughter song but I like the whole vieb.

I just realized my comment may have come off a bit rude, bragging about my relationship with my dad. I’d just like to say I’m very sorry that you’re dad is so ill and I’m happy that it seems as if you are making piece with your relaionship with him while you can.

What about Forever Young by Bob Dylan (or one of the many covers of it by other people). We actually used the Glee version for our mother-son dance but I think it would work in this case too!

I like the idea of Forever Young cover…that might be a good choice
