I recently became engaged (yay!) and have begun researching wedding details. My date is August 20, 2011 so I have a little time;however, I’d like to knock stuff out as early as possible. I figured I could start compiling a list of songs for the wedding. I’m stuck on the Father/Daughter dance. My dad is walking me down the aisle and we’ll have the dance but I don’t like any of the traditional songs. We have a strained relationship and always have. I just need something simple and sweet; nothing that says “daddy is my everything and did it all for me”. Any suggestions?

My friend and her father did their dance to a Bob Marley song (Jammin maybe?) – it was a light hearted song and NOT sappy at all!
“A Wink and A Smile” by Harry Connick Jr
“Celebration” by kool and the Gang
“Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns n’ Roses
We are doing “My Wish” bby Rascal Flatts – not too sappy, and Fiance and his mom are also going to dance at the same time.

If you have a strained relationship, that will come across and create an awkward environment even if you pick an upbeat neutral song. It is ok to skip it and in your case, that might be the better option. Otherwise, if you absolutely must have the dance no matter what, the song choices listed above are a good place to start.
