So, I am not that close with my father (he is actually my stepfather, but he adopted me at the age of 8 and my biological father is not in the picture)
but..my fiance is close with is mother, and I now he would like to do the mother /son dance. I am not all that comfortable with the father/daughter dance, but i want to do it if they are.
i do love my dad and want to make him feel like i am honoring him, but all of the songs that i have researched are all so cheesy and not appropriate for us.
PLEASE help me! is there any songs that you can think of that might work?

@marchbride26: There are many websites that have song ideas for that dance! I’m using “My Girl” from the Motown era. It’s fun and upbeat and won’t make me cry 🙂

@[email protected]:I love that song! i also forgot to mention that my dad’s favorite bands are U2 and Pearl Jam..I cant think of a good song from either of them to use. I really wanted a beatles song, but none seemed to fit….

@marchbride26: The DJ Company we used had lots of really good ideas for the special dances we had to choose songs for. http://www.tcweddingdjs.com/Ultimate-DJ-Playlist.html

I’m in the same boat. Can’t find a song that fits our relationship.

There’s a new song by Edwin McCain that I’m using… it’s called “Walk With You”… it’s a father/daughter song, but focuses on your new husband to be a lot, taking away a bit of the mushiness.
Also try “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life”.

I’m in a similar predicament. My “Dad” is actually my moms boyfriend whos been in my life for more than 10 years. He’s my Dad regardless of whether or not he contributed to the making of me but selecting our father/daughter dance song has become harder than I thought it would be. Most of the “suggested” f/d songs are all pretty mushy and talk about me being a baby and stuff which clearly doesn’t apply to our situation.
Our list of possible contenders are:
- Never Alone – Lady Antebellum (this is one of my favorite songs so I’m leaning towards this)
- Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Either the Israel Kamakawiwo’ole or Eva Cassidy version
- My Wish – Rascal Flatts
