- Wedding: September 2011
This is my second wedding, FI’s first. I am 40 years old and Fiance is 29. We are paying for the wedding ourselves and my 14 year old son will be walking me down the aisle.
I don’t want to do the father/daughter dance but FI’s mom is adamant in having her dance with her son and I don’t want to take that away from her. I would feel terrible for my dad if they had a first dance and we didn’t, plus I think it would look awkward to everyone. I’m not disrespectful to my father at all – but he’s almost 80 years old and isn’t very interested in being in the spotlight.
So…I was thinking maybe I would do a short dance with my father and then have my son and daughter join us on the floor (and perhaps replace my dad) so it’s the 3 of us dancing? Then my Fiance and his mother could have their first dance after that is done.
Would this be weird? Should I just do a full dance with my dad?
Anyone have any good song picks for an older bride and her father? I had no trouble choosing a song the first time around, but at 40 years old and being out of the house since I was 18, it honestly just seems very strange/awkward to me.
Any song suggestions or general suggestions would be appreciated.
