Yes, I picked the song with my dad.  I had a couple in mind before I talked to him about it, but the song we used was one that he suggested (he came up with it pretty quickly, which makes me think he had it in mind for a while) and it was perfect!

I let him choose the song.  He chose Wonderful World.

I gave him three choices. He expressed his preference, which was a song I was on the fence about, and I surprised him with it on the dance floor.

I want to totally surprise my dad.  The song Jennifer Juniper (Donovan) was played at my parent’s wedding 45+ years ago and is the song that they named me after.  My dad hums it around the house when he is happy.

@FutureMrsGG:  I picked the song and my dad doesn’t know what it is, yet.  I told him months ago that he could choose one if he wanted but that I had something in mind.  I’m super excited he said he wanted to go with my pick (Delaney Talks to Statues by Jimmy Buffet) because the song reminds me of my childhood and describes our relationship perfectly.  I’ve known for years that’s what I wanted, and I know he’ll be shocked because it’s not a traditional Father/Daughter dance song.

I let my Dad pick the father/daughter dance song.  He chose “I wish you peace” by the Eagles.

I picked it.  My mom told me when I went off to college that everytime he heard “There Goes My Life” (country song not sure who the singer is offhand) that it made him think of me.  So that’s it.  Hopefully he remembers that the song makes him think of me or it might not be the surprise and thoughtful factor I was going/hoping for!!

@FutureMrsGG:  I told my Dad to pick a song.  My mom found him on his computer the next morning listening to father/daughter songs and crying.

This is going to be a rough dance for us both-lol

I liked giving him the opportunity to pick, I think it made him feel really special and he’s obviously taking it quite seriously lol.  Maybe see if your Dad would be interested in picking your song.

@FutureMrsGG:  I’m having a hard time picking… the songs dad and I listened to together when I was growing up don’t really fit for a father daughter dance, although there are lots of songs by those artists that could work even if we didn’t listen to them together.

I have these few in mind: You’ve Got a Friend (James Taylor- not “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”), How Sweet It is (to be loved by you) James Taylor, Thank You by Led Zeppelin, or Thank You by Dido.

It might be really cool to do Thank You by Dido because that was the music for my parents to light a candle on my bat mitzvah cake, but the other songs would really make me cry hysterically (which to me is a good thing). Also, are any of these songs too obscure? I want the guests to be able to relate too.

My dad is a very emotional person… I can’t decide if I want him involved in this decision or not. I wonder if he would like to be surprised more or if he would want to get to pick it out together. Do you think dads expect to be involved in picking it out?

My dad really loves Daughters by John Mayer so that’s what we’re going with
