- Wedding: June 2013
My wedding is fast approaching, and one of the big decisions left to make is the father/daughter song. My dad and I are the best of friends, so I don’t want a super sappy song about giving a daughter away to the husband, or about a dad being sad his “little girl” is all grown up. I really want to pick a song that my dad and I love and has been a part of our life.
I really, really love the song “I Want To Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston. Whenever I hear it, I immediately think about my dad (it was the biggest song one year when we spent almost the entire summer at our cottage.) It holds a lot of sentimental meaning for me, and I really want this song to be our first dance song. It’s a fast song, so I found an acoustic version on YouTube by Ben Rector: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BW_ugyj0lw We would play the Whitney Houston version later in the night.
The only problem is that one of the lyrics is “I wanna feel the heat with somebody.” My dad thinks this is creepy. I think it is too, but I don’t care because this song hold such great meaning for the both of us. I think the sentimentality is more important, but my dad wants to pick a song with good lyrics about a father and daughter. I’ve been wracking my brain about another song that fits both of our criteria, and I can’t think of anything. I want my dad’s say in the song, but I don’t want it to be some generic mushy song – our relationship is too important to me pick something that I don’t love. Bees, what do you think?
