I don’t see why you couldn’t have a mother daughter dance

There are several threads on this site about mom/daughter dances with some good ideas.  I am hoping to have one with my daughter, and want to dance with her to Brandon Rhyder’s “Freeze Frame Time” as the lyrics have always reminded me of her and it was popular at her prom:  “You are an angel, you taught me how to fly.  You picked me up when I was down, turned me around and made me fly high.  We’re a little bit older now, together we’ve seen some change, but I love you more now than I did on that very first day.  Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we cry, sometimes it’s hard to figure out our way in this life.  But it’s moments like this that make me wish I could freeze frame time.” I tear up just typing this – I’ll probably be a hot mess that evening!  Her father is no longer alive and would not be invited if he were, so that’s not an issue.  It would probably mean a lot to your mom to have a special moment with you!

@HelloRaeven: My FIs parents are gone from this world. While I am dancing with my dad he will be dancing with my mom.

I think a mother/daughter dance would be great. My coworker did it at her wedding off of “Wind Beneath My Wings”, a real tear jerker!

I don’t have anyone to be a ring-bearer so I am going to have our mothers carry the rings and have our officiant do a quick little something with having them give the rings along with their blessing.

I have seen a mother/daughter photo slideshow with music in place of the dance. It was just as nice!!

Well, the groom’s mom does get a dance too – so if you do a dance with your mom that means all of the parents will be getting a special dance with the exception of the groom’s dad…just something to think about, don’t want to leave anyone feeling left out like that. I was a bit torn over this too, I really wanted to incorporate The Best Day by Taylor Swift somewhere because it’s totally my song with my mom. In the end I just couldn’t find a place to make it work with everything else already going on that day – there’s already quite a bit of things where your guests are just sitting there watching between the first dance, mother/son dance, fatherdaughter dance, speeches, cake cutting, etc. So I made a little picture slideshow to it and presented it to her privately later on with a thank you card and gift for everything she and my dad had done for the wedding,

i danced with my mom at my wedding (i dance with my mom at parties and stuff anyway, haha). my parents just split the song. we dance to isn’t she lovely by stevie wonder. i started off by dancing with my dad and then about halfway thru, my mom cut in. i was going to dance to something different with my mom, but i couldn’t think of any songs that i liked that wouldn’t turn us into a sobbing mess, lol.

@HelloRaeven:  For my dance with my daughter, she assures me she gets to be the girl, so I am practicing waltzing in the “wrong” direction.  It will take more practice, but I want to have that moment with her.  We have danced together at family weddings before, much to my own mother’s chagrin.  When she insisted I “sit down and behave” at the age of 48, I advised her with all due respect that any time my college-age daughter requested the pleasure of my company on the dance floor, she would have it.  So my mother just had to sit and pout, and we had one of the best times ever!

@HelloRaeven:  Oh, that’s really nice that they’re so close then! Sorry, I didn’t realize he didn’t have a dad in the picture. And I loveee that song, it’s so cute and it always makes my mom cry too. Have you seen the video Taylor made to go along with it for her mom? It’s adorable!

I didn’t do a mother/daughter dance at my wedding, but my niece did it with her mom on her quinceanera last year, they both picked the song and swayed singing it.. it was way more special and emotional than the father/daughter dance.
