Hello hive! Fiance and I have started brainstorming about favor ideas for our June wedding and I’d love some input. The ones we are considering right now are cake pops in our wedding colors, a large chocolate dipped pretzel stick decorated with some sort of sprinkles or colored chocolate, or clear bags filled with some kind of yummy popcorn mix we make and cutely labeled.
Which would you prefer? We are just starting to think of ideas so if you have a better idea or a way to improve one of these ideas, I’d LOVE the input!

@Whitney818: They all sound really yummy to me! I love favours you can eat instead of dust collectors you will never use! I think the cake pops sound like a good idea π

@sweetchiquita12: Thanks for the input! I totally agree that something edible/usable usually seems to go over better at least with the weddings I’ve been to. I love the idea of cake pops. Actualy the main thing making me question them is we are having 200 guests so I probably need to see how hard it is to actually make cake pops since i’ve never made them haha π

@Whitney818: It would be a good idea to try that out first to see how it goes. I have a friend that makes them quite oftern and she says it is quite easy..I personally dont think I would have the patience to make that many lol

All of those actually sound really good! I’d be happy to get any of them. I think I’d like the cake pops the most, if I had to pick one!

What is your venue like, or do you have a theme? I love popcorn and trail mix, and it would be good for everyone’s travel home (whether driving or flying), whereas I think cake pops would be better to be eaten right away. However, I think that popcorn seems less formal so would be better for a casual or outdoor wedding than a really formal traditional wedding.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts! Glad to hear most of the ideas would be a hit π
@ivoryowl: we don’t have a theme except I am going for sort of a DIY but classy elegant feel. Our venue is called the Tiger Hotel and its a renovated old hotel and still has the fixtures and stuff from the 1920’s. Our reception will be in a big ballroom. So it is elegant but not like stuffy. I hadn’t thought about popcorn being more casual but I think you’re right. If I did that maybe I could have the favors in baskets by the door rather than at each place setting just so it didn’t take away from the feel of the day. Thanks for your input!

Cake pops aren’t hard to make, but you will definitely want to practice before you do them! It is difficult to get them to be “polished.” They can also be made well before your wedding too, since the almond bark keeps them fresh! π
If you do choose to do cake pops, check out http://www.cakecentral.com There are a TON of tutorials and ideas there!
Good luck!

@redness82: Thank you SO much! I have a feeling if I do cake pops those tutorials are going to be a life saver since I have absolutely no idea how to make them π

@Whitney818: I would love to be a guest at your wedding – all of those choices sound mighty yummy! I do agree that the popcorn may be a little bit more casual than the other 2 though. I would probably choose the cake pops!
I’m doing something edible too – chocolate covered espresso beans (FI and I are huge coffee lovers).. Gosh, I love Etsy! They wrap it up so nicely in brown bags and twine.. swoon!

@romantical: I LOVE the idea of chocolate covered espresso beans π The packaging is so cute too! Thanks for the input on my favors! I talked to Fiance last night and he was leaning towards the cake pops too I think.

Cake pops are easy, but are really time consuming, lots of steps. And since they are cake mixed with frosting, you would need to made them the closest posible to the wedding, so that they are fresh.
I voted for chocolate covered pretzels. You can do those in advance, in the colors of your wedding, and the contrast between salt and sweet is great. Yum!

@HereComesHoneyBeeBee: I agree. Cake pops would be super cute but omg that would be so much work!!!
The pretzels sound awesome and definitely not as time consuming.

@HereComesHoneyBeeBee: I hadn’t considered the timing factor. Thanks for bringing that up! I think I need to start a list of things that need to be done really close to the wedding and if there is several I might need to do as you suggested and go with a favor that can be made more in advance. π
