Here’s what I have already decided on:
– Bubbles for our recessional after we’re pronounced Mr. & Mrs.
– Fan program for ceremony (double duty item for my outdoor ceremony)
– Candy buffet as part of my end of the night dessert buffet
– CD of some of our favorite songs which will be played at the reception (FI’s DIY project)
I don’t feel that is enough…mostly because they are all overused & predictable. I really want something personal.
Here’s a little about us:
My Fiance & I met in undergrad (both science majors) and we’re both pursuing degrees in the medical sciences (he’ll be a pharmacist in May 🙂 and I begin PA Program in January). I would love for us to have a unique, useful and personalized gift that speaks to the Fiance & I, and our union. Something guests can use beyond that day.
– Coasters – also predictable
– Bookmarks – because we’re both considered bookworms
How about you out there? Any memorable personalized favors? What’s your favorite?
ANY IDEAS (and pictures) would be greatly appreciated, Bees!

I’m a big fan of food and candles. Yankee Candle will do custom ones, and their prices aren’t too bad.

@mepayne: Thanks for the reply…but I’m not in love with the idea of candles. They’ll be a big part of my decor, though.

These might be too stereotypical “science”:
test tubes filled with candy- you could use Nerds
or seeds or lavender
beaker planted with moss- like a mini terrarium
you could use the periodic table to label something- can you figure oit something for your married name?
a mortar and pestle

@julies1949: Oh man I LOVE that test tube with candy!
I’m doing button magnets for mine since it’s something I already do/have the supplies for. I do my own illustrations so I’m thinking of making a mini my face and mini fiance’s face in this style along with a couple of generic patterns.

@julies1949: I, too, love the test tube with candy idea. I already did a spin on that for his graduation party headed into his Pharm.D. (Rx bottle with custom label filled with skittles!)

@thisisbrucebanner: Fridge magnets are a cute idea, too.

Please do not do the coasters. We had those as gifts for the bridal shower of my sister in law. Yeah guess who has 40 of those freakin coasters cause no one really was too interested in them… yeah this chick.
I googled and found a lot of science themed weddings … What about a beaker/flower vase? I’m sure you’ve googled too ..

I think that while you may not love the idea of candle favours, edible or candles are the most popular for a reason, they are the most well received, more guests will actually take a favour home if you go with these. You will find many guests won’t want a wine glass, matches, coasters, etc with your names/pictures/wedding date on it.

@HisIrishPrincess: Thanks for the advice. I’m still looking for an idea that sticks since the wedding isn’t science themed & I don’t want it to become that.

I love the test tube full of sweets someone else said! You could also make bookmarks with Periodic Tables on them. Or DNA strand bookmarks.

More and more, I’m thinking I’ll stick with what I have. Nothing’s “speaking to me”…not yet, anyway.

Is their something special about your hometowns? I am doing these candies that are only made in my hometown.
In general, dessert buffet is awesome. That’d be my favorite.
