My Alumnae Association offers a credit card through Bank of America, we earn points that can be used for travel or other rewards like gift cards AND a percentage is donated to my Alma Mater which is awesome!  Oh and we have B of A accounts and we can use it in tandem with Add it Up so we get additional discounts with some of our online purchases.  And it is linked to the bank account so it is super easy to pay off every month.

I had the Starwood Amex as well but I just switched to another card after they raised the yearly fee to $60. I’m not paying that when I have an 800 credit score! I switched to some other air miles card in the same umbrella (ccan’t remember the name now, past midnight here and I’m sleepy) so I can keep my points.

I love my Southwest Airlines Visa — I put EVERYTHING on it and I usually get 2 free round trips per year in rewards. It’s great!

I love our Discover! We put our honeymoon on it and got 5% cash back. Plus, it’s pink and has my inital on it, so what’s not to love?

Amex Blue Sky is our everyday purchase card. For every 7500 you spend (and you get extra points for travel purchases), you get 100$ off your balance for travel-related purchases. Those could be hotels, spas, tickets, etc. Other cards we’ve seen require 10,000 spent.

We’ve stayed away from department store cards just because they tend to have low limits, thus easily maxed which is not so great for credit scores!

If you like Amex and want a hotel card, look into the Hilton cards; in addition to getting you points, you can get Hilton Honors status by spending a certain amount of money on the card each year.  Gold status in the program gets you free breakfasts, free internet (nice when you’re staying at the higher end places which still charge you for it), possible room upgrades/lounge access, etc.

I like my Discover card for the cash back %, great designs, decent interest if we don’t pay it off and best of all – excellent customer service.
