@HonoraryNerd:  I know Padraig is pronounced Porrick, so I would think Padraic is pronounced the same. Like Padraig Pearse

Edited to include- it can also be pronounced like Podrick. A better way of writing it phonetically would be paw-rick and/or paw-drick

@HonoraryNerd:  I love the Greek name Athena.. I think its so pretty! We probably won’t name our daughter that, (if we have a little girl) even though Fiance is Greek because we chose to name her after my grandmother (Kathleen) 🙂

But I still love it!

ETA: I also love Siobhán (I’ve also seen it spelled chivone) pronounced Shiv-on, for a girl!

I’m another one very uncomfortable with labelling non-anglo names “ethnic”

there are a number of non-anglo names I like. Favourites include Sakura, Kimie, Aroha and Kana.

I have several favorite Hebrew names: Avi, Zev, or Nathaniel (“given by Gd”) for a boy, and Zahava (“golden girl”) for a girl.

I also love the Irish Roisin (girl – Ro-sheen), and the Latin Amadea (girl – “beloved by Gd”).

My name is Ariana, which I guess is ethnic. I love Slavic names, Svetlana being a favourite

I had a student named Artemis once. I thought that was awesome.

My favorite Czech girl names are Sarka (with an accent I can’t find on this keyboard and pronounced Sharka), Marketa, Darina, Vendula.

I love Milagros (nn Mila), Spanish for miracles. I like Irish names too, like Niamh and Lachlan, but since Fiance is Cuban, they’d sound off with his last name.

I really like Japanese names for some reason. I had a close friend growing up named Kaori and to this day, I think it’s one of the prettiest girl names I’ve ever heard.

liameowchelle:  I live in Japan and my fiancé is Japanese, and I think there are so many beautiful girl names here. Kaori is a good one, and I also like Mika, Ayana, Mana, Reina, and Mari. I don’t really like any boy names though, except for maybe my fiancé’s name.
