It’s not Christmas unless I go to a Candlelight service on Christmas Eve; and now my husband goes with me!

I love listening to Christmas music while I decorate the house. Once we get married and have kiddos, new pjs on Christmas Eve!

I have to make saffron buns. They’re a Swedish food, typically made for St. Lucia’s Day – December 13th – but they’re a Christmas thing nonetheless. Yummmm.

Christmas Eve/my dad’s birthday.  We get together (brother, SIL, parents, Pop-Pop, Fiance and myself) and make homemade hand rolled pasta. It is my favorite meal of the year.  SIL can’t roll the pasta to save her life and we laugh at her, but we found her a job as noodle runner.  I love that Fiance and SIL have joined in on the tradition.

Fiance and I open one gift and our stockings after Mass on Christmas Eve.  We started this 3 years ago and last year that is where my ring was located, so it has even more meaning now.  I asked what he was going to do to top it this year and he laughed at me!

And I have to read The Night Before Christmas and the Polar Express on Christmas Eve.

And maybe drink a Mad Elf.  Shh.

Every year on Christmas morning as a kid we were allowed to open our stockings, then we had to go eat breakfast before getting into the gifts.  Also ‘Santa’ always put a clementine in the toe of the stockings.  Both these traditions have/will been carried on with my Fiance and I.

Making Tamales with my mom, she’s no longer here, but that is my most fondest memories with her in the kitchen and her directing us on how to make the best tasting tamales…..

My favourite tradition was all of us sitting around christmas eve just talking and my reminiscing about when we were little, and when my parents were little.   We each got to open one gift christmas eve between us kids.

Now we spend christmas eve with his family, and head to my family on christmas day so i miss the christmas eve at home.

Christmas morning we used to wake up, put on some coffee, open our stocking first, have breakfast, then get to the rest.   Now that i don’t get home till christmas day in the early afternoon, i’m the last to open the presents.

It’s so hard still, i REALLY miss spending the WHOLE christmas holiday at home with my family.  I still can’t get used to it.

We always slept in sleeping bags around the tree on Christmas Eve.

When we have kids, or are visiting family, we will do this!

@Preppy_Bee:  Yes! Christmas Vacation is a must see, at least once. I already watched while decorating the tree, so will watch again closer to! 🙂

I haven’t had any traditions with my family for yearssss. We just get together sometime around Christmas for dinner and some people exchange gifts.

Our new traditions, however, are spending Christmas Eve with Future Father-In-Law, his wife, and their two kids. We have Christmas cocoa (peppermint cocoa), they do tons of crab legs (I have pasta), and then we open gifts. We do a gift exchange with his dad’s side of the family, at his grandparents’ house. One of their neighbors comes over dressed as Santa, and hands out the gifts. You have to go sit on his lap and give him a kiss, haha. Then we bed down in one of the cabins on either side of their house (they live on a lake and have a rental cabin on one side and a snowbird house on the other) that are usually freezing (and one has no water).

My mom used to drive us around town looking at Christmas lights.  It’s something Darling Husband & I have done together every year since we met, and we’ll continue to do so.

A tradition that we’ve started between us is going to see The Nutcracker.  We usually go see the ballet then drive around and look at lights.  It’s nice that we can keep some of our childhood traditions and add to them to make them our very own 🙂

Making Christmas cookies on Christmas Eve to leave out for Santa. I love doing this with my kids.

Decorating the Christmas Tree and house the day after Thanksgiving (we do this instead of Black Friday shopping).

Watching the many favorite Christmas movies and I love introducing old classics to my kids!
