MrsBeck :  I enjoy Last Podcast On the Left, the guys that do the podcast are really funny and entertaining. They typically discuss serial killers, cults, infamous murders, etc. They spend a lot of time researching, I find it to be really interesting… if you’re in to that kind of thing

I really like Stuff You Should Know, Freakonomics Radio, and The Sporkful. (All have caused me to be that person who walks around with “fun facts” in her back pocket at all times.) For example, did you know that walruses don’t use their tusks for eating, only to establish dominance over other walruses?

MrsBeck :  I’m assuming you’re farmiliar with My Favorite Murder, but there’s another podcast on the Exactly Right network that is just hilarious called Do You Need a Ride?

It’s basically comedians riding around in the car chatting, but it is very entertaining.

I’ll second Terrible, Thanks for Asking.

Atlanta Monster was excellent, as was Up and Vanished. I’m enjoying Monster: Zodiac Killer as well.

Ask Me Another is a charming mix of trivia, comedy, and music. If you like Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, you’ll like AMA.

My latest discovery might be an acquired taste; I LOVE IT, but it’s pretty… saucy. It’s called Why Won’t You Date Me and it’s by Nicole Byer, who is this awesome comic who consistently cracks me up. She basically invites people on to look at her online dating profiles and give her feedback. To give you a sense of the tone, her main profile photo is of her holding a big dildo. So, if you find that kind of thing amusing, you’ll enjoy her humor in general. I just like to give a heads up in case that isn’t your cup of tea.

Mobituaries is fantastic – it’s sort of about things that have passed out of pop culture and why. Highly recommend. Also the Teacher’s Pet by the Austrailian is PHENOMENALLY satisfying.

I love Heavyweight and Family Ghosts. They sort of fall in the reveletory personal growth storytelling genre.

Finally Where Should We Begin, which is actually a podcast of a session of marriage counseling. I have learned a lot listening to it. Ester Perel has a very distinct therepeutic approach I really appreciate.

As the first poster mentioned – This American Life. Different stories each week and just so amazing! I listened to my first episode in high school when my hisotry teacher didn’t feel like teaching that day. Ha. See if you can find “House by Loon Lake” 🙂

My Favorite Murder

True Crime Obsessed (they watch and discuss true crime docs, it’s a comedy true crime podcast)

Real Crime Profile (former FBI profiler and domestic abuse expert discuss cases. Their episodes on The Keepers are excellent)

Mother May I Sleep with Podcast (they watch and make fun of lifetime movies, I love it)

Someone Knows Something (each season covers an unsolved case)

Cold (cover the Josh/Susan Powell case in Utah)

Atlanta Monster (about the Atlanta child killer)

Monster: Zodiac Killer

Up and Vanished (just season 1 – covers an unsolved case, new information actually comes to light like 3/4 of the way through and it’s solved)

In the Dark (I preferred season 1 to season 2 – covers the Jacob Wetterling case which was just recently solved, this is the case that spurred the sex offender registry)

Broken Hart’s (covers the details of the Hart family, the one where one of the moms drove their van off the side of a cliff into the ocean in California with her wife and their six adopted kids inside)

Critcal Role (Totallk different than above podcasts – voice actors playing D&D it’s amazingly well done and a blast to listen to)

I say this every time this topic comes up but I am obsessed with My Dad wrote a Porno. I don’t know if I have ever laughed so hard listening to a podcast.

For true crime I really enjoyed Dirty John and one that was recently done on former NFL star Aaron Hernandez called Gladiator.

Two random ones I came upon and fell in love with are The Doughboys podcast where they review chain restaurants and How did this get made? Where comedians discuss a different terrible movie each episode. Think along the lines of From Justin to Kelly or that pregnant Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Junior.

I also really enjoy horror fiction and got into The Black Tapes and Rabbits.

Did you listen to S Town? LOVED it.

Modern Love is also great.

And, if you like to relive your cringe-y teen years, The Mortified Podcast is hilarious. Adults read their teenage diaries out loud, in front of live audiences, comedy show style.
