Good evening, Bees!
I have been struggling for some time now about creating a good skin care routine to keep my face in good shape for next fall. My skin basically hates me. I struggle with some pretty nasty adult acne at those “fun times” of the month- ranging from a small pimple to a big nasty cyst. I usually notice these on my chin more than anywhere else and occasionally I might get a small pimple on a cheek.
To add insult to injury I also have severe allergies and eczema. It’s hard for me to use a harsh cleanser or something highly scented. I’ve found Noczema is a cheap cleanser for summer with a good amount of moisturizer in it.
I’ve also used CeraVe cream without good relief of itching on my skin (my legs are the worst!). I’ve also used Lac Hydrin and Kenalog prescription cream but I’m hesitant to use this on my face.
I just picked up some Ponds radiant cleanser and a tub of the Dry Skin Cream (I’m pretty sure this is the same stuff my mother and grandmother used for YEARS). I’ve found is has a nice, pleasant, but not too harsh smell and seems to moisturize well (even my legs!)
Any other bees with occasional acne/eczema? Have you found your magic combination yet or are you still in trial and error?

You should go to a dermatologist and get a prescription for the eczema. I have a low level steroid cream that I use on my legs and arms for the eczema, which I have year round. I also have sensitive skin and I am allergic to benzyl peroxide (sp?) and basically any prescription acne med makes my skin ridiculously irritated. I have been doing cetaphil gentle facial cleanser on my face followed by Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair (either am or pm version depending on time of day) which the derm said works for aging and acne and then Cerave moisturizer (am or pm depending on time of day). It has been working for me. I also use a scrub every few days on my face. I tend to get weird acne on my hairline still (I think from accidentally touching my face or leaning on my hand when I get stressed at work), but the routine I describe above has helped me to clear acne on the front of my face. I’ve been doing it for like 4 months.

I second the dermatologist visit but OTC stuff I have used and have seen some success with would be:
Witch Hazel ( as toner) and it is very inexpensive.
Also– be careful with your make up and lotions that they are oil and wax free. Those ingredients can lead to breakouts but also irritate sensitive skin issues. It is a little more $ and research into the products, but worth it. A good drugstore brand that I use sometimes is Neutrogena because they have an oil free make up line as well as oil free products for the face ( lotions and cleansers) with salycitic acid ( 2% I believe) to help combat acne.

I use Serious Skin Care which I think is HSN. I use the Vit C line because I am older but I know they have acne line. I really think it helps and they have frequent sets. Look on the HSN website.

I never knew about Witch Hazel as a toner! That is fantastic advice.
I am established with derm, which is why I have the Kenalog and Lac Hydrin. I sometimes use Zyrtec before bed to help with me itching myself during my sleep :):)
