socalgirl1689 :  It’s been a few years since I tried any so I may try some on again.  I actually have narrower feet so you’d think that would help.  Whatever it was, they didn’t feel comfortable!

Saucony is my brand of choice. Definitely get a gait analysis though and be open to what they suggest.

Asics and 361 (apparently designed by a former Asics person) fit me well – wider forefoot and narrower heel. I have different models for running, gym, and dance (Zumba etc). My gym shoes have very little cushion but I can run a few laps in them (like at a boot camp class). The dance ones have low traction and the runners have good cushion. Absolutely get fitted for shoes if you will be running – I go to an independently owned store, and they watch me run outside and have a great return policy.

If you’re lifting with free weights, I totally suggest Chuck taylors! I know it sounds weird, but wearing a super flat footed shoe for lifting is perfect and gives you lots of support. As far as running goes, I love my merrell-vibrams! theyre super light and flexible, and the wide toe area gives your toes lots of room to spread out while you run. Good luck on your shoe hunt!

New Balance and Mizuno definitely provide me with the best support.
