How sweet!  I also preferred our more personal gifts.  We’re not a ‘soppy’ people here, so a letter would not have gone over well – it’s the thought and all but that kind of thing is cringy b/c we’re jerks, lol.

Anyway my sister has for several years been painting photographs for wedding gifts.  So I sent her one from near where we were having our event and she painted it on a good-sized canvas for us.  She did a great job.  Then my husband’s aunt sent us an oil painting she had done of another location nearby.  I’d forgotten she painted as I hadn’t met her at the time, though he’d mentioned it once.  Both have special spots in our home now.

That letter is so sweet! Very nice of him. Regarding the painting idea my husband gave me a sketch of my wedding dress and his suit by a Dreamlines artist. I love their work, as they do amazing home sketches, which is my next purchase. When I opened the present I just melted. It was so sweet and a perfect gift from him. It looks amazing in our bedroom. So sentimental and a perfect way to show off my dress.

vatoca1016 :  Yes! Thank you! Very happy with it. We love our photos, but to have a fashion piece of art is the icing on the cake. <3

vatoca1016 :  So excited had to share. They just notified me that they put my sketch on their gallery. I’m famous!!! 🙂  It is the second one in the dress and suit section. I had to share it with someone!

So far, the sweetest gift has been a cookbook that came as a shower gift from a 90 year old lady in my church. Within the first page of the cookbook it explains how her husband (who passed away years ago) “couldn’t boil water” but loved eating her recipes. When he passed away, she printed a limited number of these books of his favourite recipes as a tribute. (These books are coveted by our church ladies, but they are hard to get ahold of) The casserole recipes are insane.) To have one passed on to us was so sweet and special.

We had many sweet gifts, as we both have pretty sentimental family members. By far, though, the coolest and most unexpected gift came from my aunt. When we got to the reception, on our table with everyone’s place cards to find their seat, was her gift. It was one of those glass boxes that you can light up, but she had gotten it personalized in vinyl of pictures of us, and the back had our wedding date and names. It is all in silhouette, so very classy!!  It was so unique! We loved it when we got there and it’s proudly displayed in our house now.
