My fiance and I are having a Christmas wedding. We’re in the process of thinking of different options for favors. I saw a wedding where the bride and groom handed out mixed CDs with some of their favorite songs. We loved this idea, but I’m wondering: isn’t this an issue regarding copyright? If so, does anyone know anything about getting rights to the songs to use them? And what if they’re just generic Christmas carols? Help?

If you purchase the songs and just give them away, I don’t think you will be violating any copyright laws. It is only if you obtain the music illegally and/or sell it.
I think a good favor would be stained glass oranaments because you could do them in flowers or something else generic and the guests could hang them on their trees and/or put them in their windows.
Another good favor would be sugar cookies shaped like and bride and groom or a wedding cake. You could ice them and sprinkle sugar on them, if you wanted something easy, didn’t want to get crazy with decorating them.

I totally agree with the ornament idea. It would definitely be an ornament I would like and use. I don’t really know about the CD idea. I’ve heard of it and like it, but in the world of Pandora and IPODs, CD’s seem outdated. Sugar cookies would also be fun.

I like the ornament idea; we thought about hanging them on the tree and having people pick one up as they leave. We also found an idea where it has clear boxes filled with ingred. for smores, and we liked that a lot. But I’m REALLY loving the CD idea. ITunes?

Last night I was brainstorming and picking FI’s head, which really only means I am brainstorming and he’s playing on his PS3 lol
But I was thinking of a twist on the Ginger Bread Man Cookies! Maybe soemthing like GingerGrooms and GingerBrides would be sooooo adorable!!! =)
We are thinking of doing that or most likely an ornament?! We arent really doing anything “Christmasy” for our wedding but this is one thing I wouldnt mind tying in some Christmas spirit into!
Best of Luck!

I love the idea of simple ornaments as favors! Every year when I hang my friends up, I think of her! You could buy them now for cheap with all of the post-holidays sales!

I had a wedding the weekend after Thanksgiving and my colors were cornflower blue so I had a snowflake wintery themed wedding.
Since I like multi-functional gifts, I got favors that doubled as place card holders.
These were the ones I got. I got a bunch on ebay for cheap. Google snowflake ornament and you should find them.

Or these are cute, you could print on the card with their name and table number.

Oh, before the snowflake ornaments, I considered the ornaments idea too. But I decided against it because 1) I didn’t have the time to make personalized ornaments for 130 guests 2) the cost of personalized ornaments were more than I was willing to spend 3) I wasn’t sure how to present them. I thought about hanging them on the tree and allowing my guest to find their ornament on the christmas tree. Thought it would be too complicated for some of my guests 4) If I got round ornaments, I didn’t want ornaments rolling around the table. I guess I wanted them to be ‘presentable’ on the table.
Yeah, so that’s why I decided against them. I’m sure there ways around that issue but I didn’t want to bother with them.
Oh, Noritake was right about the music. I think you are fine if you get the music legaliy and you “gift’ them away. It’s only illegal if you try to sell the copies.

My aunt had a lovely Christmas wedding and I helped make the favours. She bought plain christmas ball ornaments and an embossing kit. She wrote their names and date on one side and then I made a free-hand picture on the other side (a dove, a heart, a star, etc). The embossing thingy was super easy to use. But it does take a long time, so I’d suggest starting now (while the christmas ornaments are available and on super discount!!!!).
All the guests say that they love putting up the ball every year and thinking of the wedding.

I think you have a number of options to choose from
The ornament idea is definitely a good one –but there are a bunch of other good ideas — not 100% christmas – but you can do hot chocolate or apple cider packets or a snow globe – I found these wedding favors

I’m getting married next week and my mother hand painted snowflakes on ornaments for our shower favors. For the wedding we are doing votive candles wrapped in velum with the guests names on them instead of escort cards. This will be their favor. The candles will be lit once they are seated to light up the entire room. I love love the ornaments my mother did for us (she did them in our colors) and with the extras she has we are going to fill hurricane lamps with them around the reception site.
