So we’ve booked our venue and the next thing was photographer. We spent days looking at portfolios, made a shortlist and got contacting them. My favourite of all actually had the best price too, offered way more extras and had many recommendations. I was super excited and had my heart set on this person.
Turns out they are already booked! We are 21 MONTHS OUT, and the wedding is on a Thursday! I can hardly believe it?!
I am pretty bummed. We have the option to change the wedding date to the following week but I don’t really want to do this as we’ve already told the date to some family coming from overseas. However, I’ve got it in my head that we won’t find another brilliant photographer we love for that price. I know it’s one of the most important parts of the planning process so I’m having a silly freak-out, and I’m just kinda fed up of looking at portfolios as there are SO MANY.
Just need some reasurance I suppose. Has this happened to anyone else? How did you find your photographer? Any UK photographers people recommend?
Thank you all x

Just change the date at your venue and let your overseas guests know ASAP. You are 21 months out, I doubt anyone has bought a plane ticket.

Can you ask for a referral from the photographer you loved?

It’s so far out, I think moving it a week will give people PLENTY of time travel arrangements.
We had a date booked and then our reception venue we went with, between our consult on a Friday and reaching out to book on the following Monday, a government group booked the venue for our date! Luckily they had the week before open, and it was so far out that our church could change the date (it was 1.5 years out roughly).
If your heart is set on the photographer and they have availability a different week, I’d say DO IT!!

want to add: And hopefully far enough out the venue can change as well… so call the venue first to see if they can change the date before changing it with your guests and booking the photographer, obviously!

Yes, and she recommended another photographer she used to work with. We ended up going with the photographer she recommended and the photos turned out beautifully. She had a lot of great ideas, too.

As PPs have stated, I DOUBT anyone has made any plans or travel arrangements this far out, so changing dates wouldn’t be that big of a deal.
I would check with VIPs though to make sure the new date doesn’t conflict with any of their future plans, but if the photog is that important to you, I would adjust the date.
and of course make sure the venue is available prior to making any changes.

Most airlines and hotels don’t make reservations 21 months out so you are safe to move the date.

Just change the date. At 21 months out, no one has even thought about making any plans yet for your wedding.

Actually, they have thought about it. I have family coming from 10,000 miles away who work in public and military services.
Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions, I’ve asked photographer for her availability and will see if any other nearby dates are suitable. I guess I have enough time to find another, I realy didn’t expect suppliers to be getting booked up yet!

That sounds like an absolute nightmare, can’t believe you were booted out by a government group! Glad it worked in the end

I’m sure they have thought about it, but it’s way too early for them to start booking things. You have time to move the date around.

Not sure exactly where you are located but you can try google https://www.google.com/streetview/contacts-tools/
you might be lucky to find someone near you.
When you find one, you may want to consider using https://www.theonlinewedding.com/en to keep your wedding memories in pictures and videos, invite friends and family to view these memories and comment on your memories.
I wish you all the best

If you love her either change your date, or inquire if she has a referral for someone similar. Whenever I’m booked I always refer a couple of diffrent photographers I’m close with who have a similar style, personality, and price-point.
