I started living with my Darling Husband a few years ago. He comes from a long line of hoarders and while he wasn’t a hoarder there was always clutter etc around in his house before I moved in..
I was never a huge neat freak (he would say otherwise) but since living together I feel I have become more and more obsessive about keeping things neat and clean.
Nothing makes me feel better than throwing things out, not just putting them in the bin but physically removing trash from our house. Ahhhh I breath a sigh of relief everytime anything goes out!
Now I have noticed I can’t drift off to sleep happily unless our room is clutter free and the sheets are ironed. Meaning, that unless the room looks unlived in I feel rather ill at ease and get up, straighten everything out then get back into bed HAPPY!
I never used to be like this and could literally sleep on a pile of unfolded laundry before I moved in with Darling Husband. Have any of you had similar transformations?
Lastly, we are TTC and I can imagine with a bebe around there will be so so much clutter and mess and just the thought of it makes me terribly anxious (I know, WTF is wrong with me?!). To all of the moms out there, were you ever able to keep the house looking semi pre-baby?
N.B. We do not have a house keeper/cleaner but all our friends do and its abnormal in our area/group that we do not. I just prefer to do the cleaning/ironing myself. That I imagine would change with a LO..

Hmmm… I hate clutter but it sounds like your situation might be a little more extreme than just keeping things organized. I’ve never ironed my sheets!
You mentioned you like the non-lived-in look. Maybe you could try hiring a housekeeper and see if that helps achieve the look you are going for?

@MapleMoose: Hahaha I thought everyone ironed their sheets until a friend of mine was over and looked at me like I was a fruitloop when I started to iron my sheets..
I hate the idea of having a house keeper as I figure I should just do it on my own, but will def consider one if we had kids as it might get too much..

I feel you! I hate clutter. I am constantly giving things away. I want our house to be minimal and have only things that we use regularly in it. My Darling Husband is slowly coming around. Clutter gives me anxiety. Literally. I can’t relax.
I would recommend buying some wrinkle free sheets! I hate ironing and buy clothes/linens that don’t need it. Totally worth the money 🙂
Oh, and on the baby front…check out this blog:
She has great tips for keeping baby gear to a minimum!!! I am so scared of having disorganized baby stuff everywhere, too!

@mrsmjm: I am so the same. I get so bloody anxious if there is “stuff” around. Darling Husband is the opposite, he can just sit and chill in front of the television with loads of crap on the coffee table and he has no problem with it.
I don’t mind about the sheets to be honest, I think polycotton ones wouldn’t need to be ironed but I love thick cotton sheets and when they are freshly ironed it feels like getting into a bed in a nice hotel – blissssss
I love the link you gave me, what an inspiration.
By The Way just saw the pictures you posted of your nursary- so so lovely. It looks so calm.
