I don’t know how good you are at negotiations but could you just kind of…lie and tell the pricey photog you would prefer to go with her but can’t do it for the price so you’ll probably be going with the other guy? She doesn’t have to know he’s already booked and it might make her come down on price? Just an idea…

@KatNYC2011: i’m sooo sorry to hear that!  i just signed up for weddingbee today to try to find a photographer for our portland, maine wedding that i’m trying to plan from accross the country in portland, oregon.  it’s tough to say the least!  would you be willing to share the name of the photographer who wasn’t available for your date?  i’ve been looking at a couple and i’m just crossing my fingers that they’re not all booked already… i’d love to learn of someone else phenomenal!

Who were the photogs? I’m pretty familiar with Boston photogs, most of whom travel in New England at no extra charge. You are really pushing it with timing, I agree – I know our wedding photog (Lisa Rigby) only has 8 spots available for the entire year at this point – just to give an example of what you’re up against for waiting till the new year! If there’s anything I can help with, let me know!

hey, sorry about that. my photographer is from Maine. she is travelling to Jamaica for my wedding, but she does a lot of weddings in Maine. i don;t know your budget or anything, but i think a standard package was $2500. she might be willing to negotiate. anyway, my photographers name is Kim Chapman. you can google her and see her website and blog. just a suggestion.  good luck.

There was a photographer that I loved for years before we got engaged and when we finally did get engaged, I found out her prices were way to high…When I let her know that her packages were out of our budget and we were going to keep looking, she made a custom package for us that we could afford! We eliminated the fancy photo albums and shaved off a little of the time that she will be there, but I am so excited that we booked her!  She is also in high demand around my area, but she told me that she hates to see people give up their dream photos because of money.  Perhaps your photographer who is too expensive would consider doing a custom package for you, as well?

@KatNYC2011: I really dont think you are starting late. I understand people book up quickly, but you are still  9 months out – I think youll be okay! What about finding a photographer from somewhere else (Vermont, New Husband, Boston, NYC, etc) and seeing if they would travel?

Talk to her, the more services you hire her for the more discount you should be getting. Tell her exactly what you said on the board. You’ve followed her work for years and would really love to work with her for your wedding but you just can’t afford to pay the standard packaging. How can she work work you to make your dream come true. I honestly think any photographer in the Industry would bend some. Especially if you offered to barter to make up the difference?
