Hi Bees,
I have been looking for “the dress” since March. I found a ball gown on my first shopping trip that I liked, but didn’t commit to it. After that, every time I tried on other dresses, I would compare it to the ball gown because it was my top contender. Yesterday I went shopping to try on the ball gown one last time, and I found another dress that I love. It makes me feel beautiful, sexy, I feel like it’s classy, elegant, romantic…There’s only one problem. My mom HATES it. She said the new dress makes me look fat, it makes my hips look big and my butt look huge and that it looks like something a 50 year old would wear
I need opinions from you lovely ladies as now I really don’t know what to do. I don’t want my mom to hate my dress, but at the same time, I want to love it too. I tried on both dresses yesterday and my big concern with the ball gown is it KILLS my arms. The beading is really scratchy and I had it on for ten minutes at most and my arms were all red and stung. It’s very beautiful, but I feel like it makes me look bigger than I am.
What do you think ladies? Does the ball gown really look that much better on me like my mom says? HELPPPPPPPP!!!!!!

@shamrock1228: I think the new one is fab! You don’t look fat by any stretch of the imgaination, and I am a fan of a more A-line gown anyway. I think you look great in it. Disregard mom and go with your heart!!

I don’t really think you can go wrong with either, they both look great! I voted for #1 because to me that is more of a WOW! dress, but you should go with what you feel.

@shamrock1228: How much does your mom know about wedding dresses? If she’s not especially fashion savvy, I suspect that the “mamma wants her little girl in a princess dress” syndrome is happening here. “Princess” means “poof” to many moms.
I do think that the 2nd dress is “older” but it’s also very flattering.
Let’s see now, you are old enough to get married, right? Then I think that you are old enough to wear the dress of a curvy, sexy woman.

I felt that the ball gown was much more figure defining while the ball gown actually made you look a little “bigger”
And as PP said, you don’t look big by any stretch of the imagination anyways

The A-Line makes you look at least 10 lbs thinner.

Hard to decide. They are both beautiful and so different from each other, and you look wonderful in both.
If I had to choose, I guess I would go with #2 as it really flatters you, but you would not go wrong with either one.

I think the A line looks wayyyy better on you !!! You have an awesome hour glass figure , show it off .
Don’t get me wrong #1 is beautiful but I think your future husband would prefer you in the second one ๐

@FauxPas2012: I do think the A-Line looks older as well, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing as I am almost 30. One of my reservations about the ball gown from day one was that it looked 19 year old bride! LOL No offense to any 19 year old brides ๐

You look smaller in the fitted dress but I dont care for the style of it. I think you should pick whichever one makes you feel happier. I like the ballgown better just bc I like the style of it.

@arig101613: Thank you! One friend said to me that her husband looked at both pictures and said that the ball gown looks like a girl and the A-Line looks like a woman ๐

I love the back of the A-line dress! It’s your day and your dress, wear what you will feel most comfortable and beautiful in! I’m sure your mom was trying to help but her comments were quite unnecessary!

I like the A Line, but they both look great. The scratchy arms is huge with the ballgown. Go back by yourself and try both on again so you can see how YOU really feel about them both and pick the one YOU like!
