I think you look lovely in both dresses, but voted for the A-line; I feel it has something the ball gown is missing, and it gives you a killer figure. I agree that your mom probably had a different vision for you on your wedding day than the A-line, but I bet if you add a crinoline to the skirt (to make it look more ballgowny) she will change her tune, IF the volume is what she wanted you in.

What! Your mum is being ridiculous. The second dress does not make you look fat, it just shows off your fab curves. If anything, the ball gown is nice, but less flattering as the skirt is soo huge (not you, just the dress!)

I think both of the dresses look really good on you – but I voted for the A-line because of the issue of the scratchy beading on the other one. If it was getting uncomfortable after just ten minutes, just imagine what it would feel like at the end of the night. Ouch.

@shamrock1228: The A-line wins, hands down! It looks like it was made for you, totally shows off your gorgeous figure!!

I voted for dress #2. If you love it, say this to your mom, “Mom, I love you and your opinion is so important to me. I love the more fitted dress, so much, and wearing it for my wedding would make me so, so happy. Can you please find some positive things to say about it, and reassure me that you love me and want me to be happy with the dress I wear for the wedding?”

I think the new one actually makes you look smaller! It gives you the tiniest waist!

They both look great on you- tough decision! I voted for the ball gown because I find myself focusing on your chest in the second dress because of the bead work, but I guess that’s not really a bad thing! lol If the second dress is more comfy and you love it, I think you should go for it!

Big ballgowns do look more youthful but I don’t see that as a good thing. We aren’t marrying girls off at 13 anymore — thank goodness! I think the second dress is lovely on you.
More importantly, if you find the fabric on the first dress irritating you shouldn’t get it even if you do decide you want a ballroom sillouette. I thought I wanted a dress with straps but just trying on strapped dresses left my shoulders red and irritated! It will all only get magnified when you are in it for 5-6 hrs or more.

Sight unseen, I was all set to say ballgown. I think many people try to make fitted dresses work when they don’t. Not so here. the A line is MUCH more figure flattering, no contest. The only thing I don’t especially care for, and since this is my own bias you don’t have to listen, is the lace up back. I prefer something more classic.
I think your figure gets totally lost in that ballgown. You have an hourglass figure and a defined waist that ought to be accentuated, An A line is great for curvy hips. Just make sure the dress doesn’t fit too tight. It’s hard to tell, but it’s possible your mom has a point that the dress could be made to fit a little less snugly in a few places.
I think she is just not used to some of the newer styles. Maybe if you show her some magazines and take her on a few more trips she’ll come around.

@shamrock1228: I like dress number 2 better. They are both very nice, but the A-line makes you look slimmer. I know mom is only trying to help, but she doesn’t have to wear the dress. Follow your heart and wear what makes you feel beautiful. It is your day!

@shamrock1228: I prefer 1, the A-line does look nice, I think perhaps try on another A-line that has a stiffer skirt.

@shamrock1228: You cannot go wrong here. I wore an a-line myself and I usually prefer them, but I had to vote for the ball gown here! I think the a-line is a little more mature and flatters you better, but that ball gown has the wow-factor!
