Had my second fitting today, and expected to take my dress home after being assured they could do anthing the needed then and there. Well that didnt happen. The lining was made too tight in the top of the legs and I could hardly move. They went back and fixed that and a few other small things, but when it came back again, this time they had taken in the outer layer f8r some reason, and now that was too tight. It sat funny, more funny than the lining too tight cos now you could see it too tight. Its an area of seam about 3 inches long, where the leg joins the hip. It was on both sides done wrong too. I am confused why they thought the outer layer (satin) needed to be taken in when only the lining needed letting out. But its got me down that they will go and make so many changes they’ll end up ruining the dress completely. I have only 3 weeks before I leave for my wedding. Anyone else been in this situation? Did it work out?

Can you take it somewhere else to get fixed? If you’re not confident that they’ll make the alterations correctly, taking your dress elsewhere is a good idea.

Yes ma’am my alterations sucked I was very disapointed she was horrible and unprofessional she did not listen to what I wanted and ruined the form of my dress I paid her and wore it nobody seemed to notice but I let the bridal shop know they should not use her -5 stars to her

Rhopalocera: im thinking of doing that. Going back on tuesday, and just taking it whatever they do and going somewhere. Heck its such a simple issue if I still had my machine I would do it myself!
@littlelulu:I wouldnt say theyve been unprofessional, I think just rushed. Thats why they wanted me not to take it, and give them the time to do it properly. I think they saw some issues and wanted to fix them, but it wasnt quite right. It would take another few hours and they didnt want me waiting so long (id already waited an hour or so for the first round). Trying to have faith, they spotted the issues immediately at least.

So… I went back to the store for the 3rd fitting and they had completely messed up even more. They let it out, but this time let it out waaaay too much, so much it was now an a-line dress instead of fit and flare! Not to mention to let it out they opened up the seams and then really stuffed up because closing the seams back up they folded the pleats the wrong way! Theres 2 layers due to the pleating on the dress. The underlayer had to be let out, so they had to take the top layer off, by opening up the seam. Then it seamed like the top layer was patched back on.
Well, I eventaully took the dress got home and balled my eyes out. It was wrong and I hated it. But i was so upset because I didn’t want to have to go pick another dress.
I went to another seamstress last night and she is an angel! She opened up the outer layer (which she had to do to reset the pleats) and found the inner layer garbage: in letting it out (I wanted maybe 5 mm maximum so I could actually move but it still be tight) they put in a patch in the seam, giving 10 cm! Yes, a whole 10 cm at the top of the legs! Me and the new seamstress were horrified and just gasped! Now i know why they messed up the outside layer, because due to the patch there was now no vertical side seam to plug the outer layer back into. But really when I said it’s too big now, they had no idea how to fix it??
So the new seamstress cut the patch and will use that for seam allowance to give me the space I need while bringing it all back in to fit proper right there, then she’ll plug the outer layer (with pleats fixed) back into the seam and all will be good. All for letting it out about 1 cm so I could walk!
I get it back next thursday, leave 4 days later for a week-long business trip, home for the weekend, then leaving the following monday for our wedding. I hope the 5th fitting will be the last….
Moral of the story: if it feels wrong, it is. Get a second opinion. But don’t give up!
