Do you have a picture of the ring?

That’s a tough decision to have to make 🙁 Could you get lots of pictures of the ring you love and have a jeweler recreate it for an anniversary? That would give you guys time to save up for your dream. You could get a placeholder wedding ring until then.

Not sure if that’s an option, but it’s the only way I can see you compromising.

I had to get my ring custom made. It’s going to cost me a couple hundred LESS than what it was originally. Maybe there are other options for you, too. Have you tried looking online for something similar?

I dont think that ring looks worth $1600.  I would wait and get something made later.

Question – based on the shape from the second picture, are you looking for a solitaire enhancer or a true band?

@MrsTVLover:  +1

Also, if it were me, I’d feel mom-guilt everytime I looked at it or drove by the Y

i fell in love with a ring at KAY for $1250 had my jeweler make a BETTER one, with more detail and more stones for $540!!  Honestly, go talk to a jeweler. I set my budget in the beginning. I got half eternity to cut costs, and smaller stones, but more of them.  🙂

Why not just nix the whole wedding ring idea and continue to wear your e-ring. That’s what I’m doing. Your e-ring sounds like a lovely ring and it sounds like you really love it, so why not just let it be your “wedding ring” after the wedding? That way you would actually have more money! And if you decide you want another band later, you could get it themn, when you can afford it. I, personally, wouldn’t want to wipe out my saving for a ring.

Ok, before we start with the mom-guilting here…there are options!

Something like: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-ring-white-gold_17396 – 18k, milgrain detailing and with the bling.  $915, not on sale.

http://www.jewelrywarehouse.com/14ctw-18KW-Romance-Round-Diamond-Curved-Milgrain-Wedding-Band-117241-W/117241W/Product?zmam=36842687&zmas=1&zmac=9&zmap=117241W&avad=123731_a3fb45ad 18k, curved instead of a straight across band, blingy and $1029 not on sale.

Yes, I know they’re still higher than your budget.  But that was 5 minutes of looking.  Seriously.  If there’s something you like, bring it to your jeweler and see what they can do.  A lot of times they can do something like a half eternity, or make the diamonds a teeny bit smaller and get you on budget.

Don’t get discouraged!  The great thing about looking online is it gives you ideas and price points.  Print out things you like with the prices.  Bring them to the stores and say ‘bluenile can do this for $915.  What can YOU do for me?’  They want your business.  Put the ball in their court and see what they can do.  They may be able to order you something similar, and they’ll at least be able to give you options.  What you’re asking for isn’t terribly unusual, and it’s pretty on trend right now.  So it’s not like you’re asking for something they’ve never heard of.   I don’t know where you’re located, but small towns obviously have fewer options for jewelers.  It may be worth going into the nearest large city to shop.

Don’t be afraid of buying online — Blue Nile and James Allen are great places to look. Ebay is another place where you can find great deals on wedding bands. Unfortunately, if you want 18k white gold, plus engraving, plus diamonds, you’re probably going to have to spend more than 500-700.
