@mixtapehearts:  My friend just found out she was pregnant… 3 months after the birth of her other child and she is exclusively breast feeding. She never got her period so she must have gotten pregnant on her first ovulation.

Anything is possible. Women tend to not get their period while they breast feed, but that doesnt mean its everyone.  Its best to be on some sort of BC of family planning even if you dont think you are going to get your period.

My lactation consultant said it usually depends on night feedings.  Frequent night feedings keep the hormones up that prevent your period.  If you are exclusively pumping and either don’t pump at all at night or don’t pump very often you could be starting your period.  This is pretty much the only reason I’m totally OK with multiple night feedings as long as little man wants them.

I didn’t get mine back.  My son is 10.5 months old and I am now almost 8 weeks pregnant.  I cut back on nursing 1 session a day to try to get my feritility/periods back, I guess it worked and I got pregnant on my first shot :).  But I believe if I hadn’t cut the session out, I still wouldn’t have gotten my period.

I haven’t gotten mine back (and I’m not pregnant!) and my little guy is 9.5 months old.

I have another EBF friend who got hers back almost immediately. It’s totally different for everyone.

Helpful, i know…
