MsGinkgo:  Online, for sure.  In-store rarely seems to have a) the shade I need in stock or b) the same freebies as online.  Maybe it’s just my local store, but I rarely have luck there!

I agree with online. Plus the employees can be very hot/cold when it comes to attitude and helpfulness.

Unless I’m doing it wrong, you have to ask sales people for samples in store, your purchase doesnt just come with it (right? or is it just me?)

I shop online because I know I’ll get 3 free samples every single time.  Plus I like seeing all the options for the rewards items, whereas in store they’re usually out of stock of the better rewards after only a day or so.

MsGinkgo:  Samples like mascara and sunblock that you can throw into your travel bag is awesome for online purchases! But trying out foundation and moisturizor, going in store is great because they’ll pump out whatever you want into their jars to take home to try. I like trying new foundation on a clean face and since I wear a full face everyday, that’s not possible when I’m in their store. So both have their benefits!

For samples/free stuff, I find that online orders are better. There are usually deals you can find where you get 3 deluxe sample sizes with a $25 or $35 purchase… BUT, I will say now that I receieve Sephora Play boxes, redeeming my points for “perks” and getting deluxe size samples online with a minimum purchase has lost its appeal.

If there’s something specific I want to try, in store is the best because they can make you samples of literally anything.

With all that said, after being so loyal to Sephora (VIB Rouge since 2014) and having over 3,000 points saved up that I’ll probably never use, I now shop at Ulta over Sephora if the brand is carried there. Ulta has a much better points system, and I’ve only been Platinum since this past Dec and already have $60 of points/credit I can redeem for anything I want in the store. I wish Sephora would switch to that model!!

MsGinkgo:  yeah I’ve been VIB for several years and never get anything unless I go find an employee and ask for it 🙁  I guess your local shop has nicer employees than mine lol

Agree with PPs, online for the better samples! And I may or may not break a large order up into multiple smaller ones to get more samples…

FutureDrAtkins:  How’s Sephora Play? I’m on the waiting list now, but debating whether to sign up once a spot opens up.

definitely online! when you are in the store, they only have about 3-5 free samples in store.  online they can have WAY more.  also, i love that you can just search for what you ordered previously online to find the exact shade so there’s no guessing on what you need to buy.

Brilliant idea! I love freebies….I wish I had thought of this before I placed a jumbo order last month. 😔

I might be in the minority, but I love going into the store for a few reasons. I’m a see and touch kind of person so I want to know what I’m getting before I purchase. If I’m unsure of something they always can make samples. Also, I’m big on trying to shop in store to ensure the employees will have jobs! And when I’ve made up my mind I want something I don’t want to wait days for it to come in.

I do notice that once they realize I’m Rouge they always say “Thanks for being a Rouge!” and then most times they give me more samples, quite often they’re big makeup bags full of samples!

I’m VIB Rouge and they tell me I’m their top customer, but I’m sure they give that badge to all of the VIB Rouge peeps. Point is their customer service is unrivaled so I say, ONLINE.

There are so many gifts you earn online plus I’m not a fan of the way they do make up at the stores and I know I’m prone to buy things I don’t want or need if I go in:-) so I’m “saving” money online…

    Right?!
