We have a little boy [friend’s son] in mind for our ring bearer, but the family has something they do every September, and if it falls on our wedding day, they would most likely go to that instead. Not a huge deal, but we don’t really know any other little boys who would be a good age at that time. We have a friend whose son would be 3 at the time, but he’s very shy, and I don’t think he would be up for the job. My question is, can we have a girl do the job? I mean, I know we can, but would that be weird? FI’s best man has a daughter who could do it, then she could stand on the guy’s side next to her dad. Would that be weird too? I want the sides to be even so I wouldn’t want two kids on the ladies side. I’m not sure if that would look odd to have our daughter on my side and the best man’s daughter on FI’s side.
Another option would be my cousin’s daughter, who is two months younger than my daughter. She would love it, but again, I don’t know if it would look weird to have two kids on my side and none on his.

Oh man, you can’t do that. Little girls eat wedding rings.
…don’t worry about how things look. Worry about how things feel. Are you close with these little girls? Do you want them to be part of your wedding? You could even have her carry a small bouquet with the rings tied around the stems. It would be awesome.

Sure, it would be fine to have a girl do it. At the last weddng I attended, the ring bearer and flower girl were both under 3 and promptly switched the pillow for the petals. It was super cute.

@zomgwut: I’m not close with the best man’s daughter, but Fiance is. My cousin’s daughter lives out of state, but we skype with them a lot. I mostly wanted a “ring bearer” because I have a pillow, but I guess I could just not use it and have two flower girls. I hope our original ring bearer can do it so I don’t have to figure out what a little girl could do.
@kerensa: Haha. I think my daughter would not switch the flowers; I think she’ll have a blast with them. Any of the kids we use would be 4 at the time of the wedding [my daughter and my cousin’s daughter will both be 4 1/2]. I think that’s a pretty good age.

Go for it! My friend’s son was a flower boy and it was adorable.

Why can’t a girl carry the pillow? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a female ring bearer.

My ring bearer is my FIs little sister. Shes the perfect age, and is so excited. She’s even wearing a suit to match her big brother cause she is alittle tomboy and never wears dresses.

OK, my oldest son & his fiance are getting married at the end of the month. Theyr’e flower girl is also the ring bearer as well. So, she is now , “The Bling Queen.”
Her dress is embellished with large satin rosees She’ll have petals in her basket as well as 2 silver plated long stem rose ring boxes/holders.
