Nay1976:  You ovulate and the egg can live 12-24 hours.  Sperm can live up to 5 days, so your fertile window (when sex could result in pregnancy) would be the 4 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation I believe.  So your fertile window would be the window where sex could result in pregnancy.  So you would have a better chance of getting pregnant if you had sex one or two days before ovulation as opposed to 5 days before ovulation.  In general, if you have sex every other day that would cover your bases.

Your fertile window is when you have a shot at getting pregnant — the 5 days before ovulation, and the day of (sperm can live in fertile fertile fluids up to 5 days).  Most studies say that either the day before ovulation or two days before are the best days to get busy (if you were to pick just one day to have sex).  But your best bet is just to have lots of sex during your window, (at least every other day).  Have fun!

when TTC the practical fertile window for a good chance at conceiving is more like three days, the two days before ovulation and the day of, with O-2 and O-1 being the best. Three days before and the day after give you slim chance of conceiving. When trying to avoid, the fertile period is longer because there is a slim chance of conceiving with 4 or 5 days before, especially in your most fertile years, and also because you might ovulate a day or two early or late. But when ttc try to have sex 1 or 2 times total during those three most fertile days for your best chance.

Now, if all you are tracking is your menstrual cycles, the possibly fertile period is going to be longer, because your predicted O date would be based on an average, but that could vary by 6 days depending on your body. Temping or OPKs would give you more precise info, but sex every other day in your middle 2 weeks of your cycle would definitely hit your fertile window.
