So I have been off of birth control for about 5 months now and I never have my period. I went to take test and see if maybe I was pregnant or what was going on and they told me that my body is dependent on birth control for me to have my period. Does anybody have any experience or advice for this situation?

I didn’t have a period for a long time after coming of BCP, but due to other reasons. There are medicines that you can take that will induce a period for you. Did you doctor discuss that with you at all?

@baileyryan12: Who told you that you need to be on the pill in order to get your period? Yikes. False! Tons of us have gone off the pill recently and I’d say all have got theirs, certainly within the first month or two. AFter 5 months that is concerning, I would take a test and visit your doctor….
Some people take longer to regulate than others, but after 5 months you most definitely should have had a period….

That is odd. Did they talk wirth you about taking something to jump start your period? You do NOT need to be on BC to have a period, I have no idea why they would tell you that.

Candy Nee- No my doctor never discussed that with me. They just said that I would need to be on birthcontrol to have my period. Also was when I moved away for a year and she wasn’t my normal gyno. I haven’t been to my gyno since moving back two months ago.
StaceyA- My period has always been weird ever since I was younger. I would go a few months without having it and then when I did it would be for two weeks and really bad and that’s why i got on BC to begin with to control my abnormal periods. But this time it is weird because I’m not pregnant and there is absolutely NO sign of my period. :/

You need to talk to someone to make sure you don’t have PCOS or something else that messes with your ability to have a period. A lot of people have irregular periods as a kid so BC doesn’t regulate it, it just gets you to a point where you body usually regulates naturally.

Please call your doctor and if they don’t find this concerning, look for another doctor. I never seemed to get a regular period back after going off the pill and my doctor did not want me to go more than 60 days without my period for many medical reasons.

Thanks ladies! I will call my doctor and make an appointment ASAP. I didn’t know it could be something so serious

@baileyryan12: If it was irregular in the past then I would be a little less concerned. Definitely still call your doctor and have them look into it. 5 months seems like a long time to go.
Regardless, keep us posted and best of luck – hopefully it shows up soon!! 🙁

Request Provera or Primolut – they will induce a withdrawal bleed.
