Last night FH shot down me strassing shoes.. I have been looking forward to it since I discovered them here on the bee… He told me $400 on crystals is ‘stupid’.. I agree.. to some point.. But I want to feel like a princess on my day… I already don’t particurlarly like my dress, and know it’s going to be WAY heavy on the day of the wedding, I already wobble when I walk because of a medical condition.. I just want to feel pretty… Please no “RED FLAG” comments, he was being honest… I just don’t know what to do :(.. I ordered cheap black crystals to ‘test’ on another pair of shoes, but now the wind has left my sails because I really wanted the beautiful sparkle of the Swarovoski crystals

Is there a way to do it with something cheaper? My Fiance will have no clue what kind of shoes I’m wearing!!

Woah, I had no idea they were that expensive. What if you glitter them instead?

The only RED FLAG is you. $400 on crystals, and then you have to put them on and they might turn out crappy even then. You can get a kickass pair of designer shoes for less. You’re about to get married, so you need to be able to budget with him. Not liking your dress is a separate issue.
Sit down and discuss your shoe budget. If you want it bigger, take money from other parts of the budget in areas he agrees to- like programs.

Any way you could just raise the extra money on your own? Then it’d be an expense out of your own pocket instead of your (I assume?) joint finances.

what color do you want to do? I’m sure you find a cheaper pair of sparkly shoes! $400 on crystals is a lot – plus all the labor! You could buy a nice pair of designer shoes for that much!

@RunnerBride13: It’s because I like the swarvoski – non ab crystals… This is *basically* what I want my shoes to look like only not Louboutins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lZNa1BE2og
@allyfally: I don’t want glitter.. I want the crystals… Glitter isn’t the same kind of sparkle.. I’m hoping the cheaper, black crystals I ordered are super sparkly, then I can do it for ~$40, but if not.. I don’t know what to do…
@MrsBroccoli: I’m sorry, but no.. No designer will make the kind of shoes I want/need (I need a specific type of heel/height due to a medical issue) to have to look/effect I want on our wedding day.

Well, on the up side – you never knew they were going to work out to be great, right? So if the crystals are actually that much, I would just buy myself a nice pair that doesn’t need all that work and focus my efforts on something else.
I understand that you’re disappointed now, but could you perhaps find another DIY project that you could get excited about – to take your mind of the shoes.

@MissCalifornia: It would be part of my tax return to buy them.. He thinks its stupid because “You’d never wear them again”.. OH HELL YES I WOULD! I’d wear them loud and proud!
@MrsWBS: I like tedious work.. I want to do the purple velvet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lZNa1BE2og .. I just think it looks so stunning and will work with the purple on my dress

@eocenia: I’ve looked for shoes… Even had bought another pair, and had them altered so I could wear them (I have a 1″ length deficiency in my right leg) and the cobbler butchered my shoes, I cannot wear them confidently…

@hiroshymatetrastar: How about strassed flats? Cheaper (fewer crystals) and more comfortable. I’m sure there’s going to be a height difference, but some Bees say it’s not a big deal.
Also, how about just strassing the heel and/or platform (if there is one)?

@hiroshymatetrastar: If it were me, I’d rather have the square envelopes you cut from your budget than the shoes. Try to keep it in perspective. Hardly anyone will see the shoes. Look for some glittery ones or maybe you can even find some used!

@hiroshymatetrastar: I completely forgot you had these shoes! I would go back to these and glitter the part your cobbler added, the way people are now doing glittered soles.

I’d negotiate if it’s really important to you. My Darling Husband thinks plenty of my expenses are “stupid” but we’re both allowed to spend some fun money at our own discretion. Can part of the expense be your valentines present or your birthday present? Or can you give something up and allocate the money toward crystals instead?

@somethingaquamarine: FH is 6’3″ I am 5’5″ Maid/Matron of Honor is 5’11” I need some height
@jpalm13: Nothing stays on that black surface, I’ve tried every glue out there, even mixed epoxies, it’s just too soft so it falls off
