Hello bees! ๐
I’ve been reading the boards for awhile, finally decided to make an account (you know how it goes) and this is my first post aside from commenting on a few others.
My dilemma: I think Fiance is allergic to titanium and stainless steel…and I can’t believe it. He works a lot with his hands and so far has gone through 2 rings. Neither were very expensive and he said he didn’t mind replacing them down the road. (Incase you’re wondering why we’re wearing rings before marriage, we wanted to test drive some before getting something a little more pricey, and because of this problem, I’m glad we did).
He wore the titanium ring for approximately 6 months and it held up well, no problems, but he developed an itchy, bumpy, and red rash that has a bit of clear discharge from the tiny bumps in between his ring and middle finger. I asked him if maybe he just got water or some kind of chemical from his work under his ring and didn’t wash and dry his hands properly. He swore that was not the case.
The rash took a long time to heal. After it did, we cleaned the titanium ring and he wore it again. Same rash popped up in about a week.
Here is the titanium ring. Sorry for the huge pic and dunno why it’s sideways. How do I fix that for future reference? I tried resizing but didn’t seem to work.
We went to purchase another ring from a different place, and the jeweler recommended stainless steel. Said it was possible the titanium had nickel in it (which I didn’t think so at all) and sometimes people have issues with allergies down the road.
We purchased a stainless steel ring. FI’s rash was gone at this point, so I figured we were in the clear. WRONG. Same rash appeared within a few weeks. Here is the stainless steel ring for reference:
Don’t mind the nails, need a manicure! ๐
Any advice, bees? FI’s rash is pretty much healed again. I would like to decide on what type of metal to get for his forever ring. We haven’t tried silver, or any types of gold, because now I’m worried about a nickel allergy and he is adamant he doesn’t want anything too expensive because he works with his hands a lot. He has never had any allergies that we know of. Should I just buy him some silicone rings and call it a day? Lol
Thanks in advance for the help!
