Fiance and I have started our cross-continental trip from Halifax to Victoria. Yesterday we were driving near the St. Lawrence river in Quebec and went to a microbrewery in the middle of farm land near the river. It was the most breathtaking place ever with the river, mountains and farmland. Both of us were quite serious that this venue of our dreams and had it not been in the middle of nowhere (and different marriage laws because of it being in Quebec), we would have seriously done it! I even had a wedding dress in the car! Reality set in and we realized that it would been unrealistic, but now we think we will come back to this place for vow renewals one day.
Our wedding is only 2 months away now, and everything is all planned, but we were just so tempted. Any other bees who were in the planning process who found somewhere so perfect you just wanted to elope then and there?

We did elope! 🙂 And it was the best decision we could have made. One day, I was thinking about all the money we’d end up spending on a traditional wedding and how it was still over a year away. When Darling Husband got home from work, I was like, “Let’s elope.” And he said, “Okay.” We planned our wedding in about two months. Unfortunately, there was a death in my family shortly after we announced our new plan, so we were sending out invitations and doing funeral stuff at the same time, which was kind of an odd experience. But everything went well in the end, though I was really bummed that my great-aunt wasn’t there to see us get married. 🙁

@MrsElopement: Was it planned or completely spontaneous?
@Mrs Grape: I’m sorry to hear about your great-aunt! I can imagine that would have been a bittersweet time.
Yea thinking about all the money that goes towards the wedding is scary. We are fortunate that some family is helping us out with some costs towards our $6000 budget wedding.

@blueskye: Thank you–it was tough because we were very close. Each of my relatives who were at the wedding wore a piece of her jewelry, so it was like she was still sort of with us. Darling Husband even wore a tie tack she had owned, which I thought was really cool.

With all my family drama and people’s ridiculous demands, I would elope in a heartbeat if I could. Unfortunately both Fi and my parents are devout Catholics. Without a church wedding, they wouldn’t even considered us married. =(

We almost eloped, but his mother convinced us otherwise.

we talked about getting married in mexico but i really wanted my family with me so we planned the wedding in ontario. up until a week before the wedding, my now husband kept trying to convince me to get married on the beach under the palms. we own a beautiful lot on the beach with 16 coconut palms. i was tempted because it is so beautiful and somewhat secluded.

We are eloping!!
After so many tears and so much drama Fiance said to me a few weeks ago “do you still want to elope?” and I almost fell off my chair because I couldn’t believe those words were comming out of his mouth since he is the one who wanted the big wedding.
I just confirmed our ceremony time today (paying deposit tomorrow) and our hotels are being booked tonight and I’ve spoken to a local restaurant to reserve for 8 people (likely there will only be 6 of us, our bestman & his Fiance (also a bridesmaid) + my Maid/Matron of Honor & her hubby).
We are SO excited to be eloping but SO scared to tell our families … AFTER!
