- Wedding: August 2012
Hi Bees -hoping you have some input on this.
We are having a destination wedding, so we are faced with having to select our officiant via the internet and phone. I’m not at all crazy about doing it this way and would really like for one of our friends (Lisa) to do it for us.
Unfortunately, as much as Fiance loves Lisa, his dad does not. 3 years ago, both Lisa and FI’s dad were at a birthday dinner I had. We were at a restaurant that one of my friend’s owned, so all the drinks we could drink were free. Lisa (uncharacteristically) got extremely drunk. She was loud and came across to FI’s dad as being obnoxious and out of control. Fiance says that his dad complained about her a few times after the party and is afraid that if his dad remembers her and sees her officate our ceremony, that his dad will be upset and even question the legitimacy of our marriage (because Lisa would be ordained online). At the same time, I very much want her to do it. She loves us both and has just the right energy, spirit and warmth that I want in the person who marries us.
Should I just let this go and not cause family drama?
