Our situation is kind of like that; we spend two-three weeks off, one week on.  It’s tough, and some weeks/months, we’re more creative than others, but overall, it works.  Not ideal, but we both understand why we have to be apart on the off weeks.  Two weeks isn’t so bad to get through once you get used to it; the closer Fiance and I edge to three weeks, the more antsy we get.. and let’s not even talk about four!

Skype skype skype!  Sometimes, we just keep skype on so that we feel like we’re in the same room.  And Fiance leaves me notes, which really helps; he hides 5-10 love notes in my house or in my suitcase/purse at each visit for me to find over time… it’s such a nice reminder that he’s with me in spirit when I’m using a coffee cup and I find a note tucked underneath!

Good luck!

theredneckmommy is a blogger (and mom) whose husband has a similar job schedule and she cracks me up with her posts and sense of humor about him being gone and his homecomings – check out the post where he tried warming gel on her for the first time as a surprise

I agree with the Skype comments. Also, look into planning surprises whenever he comes home. Ina Garten (the Barefoot Contessa) swears by cooking her hubby the same meal when he comes home every Friday. A long weekend away, new lingerie, that sort of stuff. You can also pack little love notes or photos in his bags before he leaves.

Mr. D has considered going the same route! My Brother-In-Law was working in Fort Mac (I think) doing the two weeks in/two weeks out thing and they really just tried to enjoy their time together as much as possible while he was back in town. They did a lot of date night dinners, that kind of thing.

Good luck! 🙂
