Today has been the happiest day! Fiance got a call today from an oil rig that he got the job! 😀 He went 1 year and 2 months without a job so you can imagine how we got when he found out the good news 🙂 He has worked since his last job one year ago, but with my father who is a musician and well that wasnt too often so he kept putting in applications at workforce for scaffolding or oil rigs which ever came first, but barely last week he noticed that his page did now show that he had a TWIC card, which we think may be the reason he wasnt getting called before, well once he put it in he filled out another application, and 4 days later here he is, getting hired! Its so great because everyone was starting to close in on us that how did we expect to have a wedding in December if he had no job, and now we can breath because that has changed and we no longer have to worry about how to get money to pay for it all! I can finally go dress shopping soon!! Ahhh I’m sorry we are just so relieved and happy! 😀 Fiance will be starting at the very bottom as a Roustabout because he has no experience, but he hopes that doesnt last too long.
Any of you bees have your FI/SO/husband working at an oil rig? If so, tell me whats the experience like? How often do you get to see your SO? What is the pay like? Tell me your stories please! 🙂

My Fiance didn’t work on a rig but he worked for the mining company that mined the rock that was layed down below the rigs.
Haha. Is he in North Dakota or Wyoming?

my so doesn’t work on a rig yet but he ships and is switchig to drilling. I also ship. plus about all of my friends ship!
first of all congrats! depending on company and what rig company the boys should help him out with trying to make phone calls home without going broke. same with sending emails. you need to get use to being on our own and accepting the fact that he may not be able to call or email (sometimes things go down). get good at managing your money. it’s not an uncommon “rookie” mistake when one first starts shipping to blow money and living paycheck to paycheck. which none of us should seeing depending on his position shipping he’s making anyways from 50k to 100+k! you really need to learn to compromise you only get half a year together (let’s face it with crew change days it’s even less! so don’t waste your time fighting when he’s home cause then hell leave and for the next 28 days to 3 months (depending on his rotation) you’ll be miserable thinking how you let him leave on such a sour note!
its a great field and it’s hard as hell at first to deal with it but think of it this way when he’s home he’s home! it’s great when my so and I are off we can do whatever we want! vacations day trips hell even sit and do nothing lol so welcome to the world of shipping! have him claim those frequent flier miles!!! trust me!
