I’m so sorry. That is so difficult. Especially around the holidays. Is anyone helping you with the wedding? Is there anyone you can contact for support?

This sucks the job market is so tough. I say your Fi approach someome he respects at work to ask for a good reference. Also it’s important he reaches out to people he knows former classmates and what not and let them know that he is looking for work. While retail and short term work sucks, the holiday season is the perfect time for him to find a job in retail or as waiter for events. He will get a lot hours and will have work for a few months until he finds something, because I imagine it’s hectic this time of year.

Just continue to be supportive of him and hopefully everything works out.

ps: I never understand why companies just lay off workers with no warning esp right before the holidays it’s so cold blooded!

@seevan07:  At least you seem to have a good attitude about it. I wish you the best!

I’m so sorry! Try to find the good – the fact that he at least has a month to prepare. this is the time for him to really get in gear and apply for jobs like CRAZY. It makes a HUGE difference when you are applying to jobs as a currently employed person vs an unemployed person. It’s not fair, but an employed person is more desirable then an unemployed.

Best of luck to him!!
